Scamming the Grove's visitors all weekend
The scammers were out this weekend getting people to give to their fake "Coconut Grove Basektball Team."
As the visitors entered the festival, they were hit up for the fake charity.
The lady who sends the kids out made a lot of money this weekend. She's great at starting these young kids off on a life of crime.

This makes me ill.
I just ask him if he wants to give to my favorite charity,
The Summer Homeless.(that's me!)
I remember this every time I cruise by Tiger tail, and see police cars just hiding there for hours behind a stop sign to nail anyone with a ticket, nice, under the shade of a tree, a/c and good music on the stereo, making whatever good salary we pay them.
Instead of patrolling the streets on foot, like their supposed to, putting out tax dollars to good use, and nailing these scam artists or other thieves.
Try e-mailing mr. Sarnoff or anyone about this, but please don't hold your breath for any responses.
The police are talking about this issue at this Wednesday's Center Grove meeting. See the article below.
Is it an open meeting?: I'll go. and i saved the officers' numbers on my cell phone in case I see those poor kids. Their parent's or whomever the adults are behind this should go to jail like any other crook.
The other day I was driving south on Douglas Road and was getting ready to make a left on Franklin (to head towards downtown Grove) when I saw a group of about 10 kids coming out of a yellow house (I think it was yellow...it's right on Douglas, across from cemetary). All the kids had stacks of fliers in their hands. There were also a couple of adults with them. This could be where the organizers of this scheme live...
FYI there was a another group of (white) kids, copycats if you will, that were doing the same exact thing near the bookstore tonight. I guess they heard you can scam money off of people pretty easily.
Write Commissioner Sarnoff....Please!
Even with his newly hired public relations employee, (taxpayer funded), you will get NO response from him. Try Sanchez or Regalado!
Folks, you and I, WE, if we are to take control of our streets and businesses WE must form some kind of group of men and women and with cell phones coordinate with the police, including this roach coach lady, apply the law by calling available police officers to issue citations and/or arrest these kids and this roach coach lady because just complaining to the Grape is not going to resolve these issues. Although the Grape can be extremely instrumental in this coordinated effort. We cleaned up Gifford Lane this way.
This makes me sick. My boyfriend and I live about an hour away from the Grove. We came to the Grove to "getaway" for a weekend a couple years ago. We fell in love with the place and visit for a weekend or two every couple of months. Our next trip was planned for March 7th. I must say, the fact that this is happening has us rethinking the whole thing. It's disgusting that nothing is being done about these bullies. Nobody wants to come to coconut grove, and spend a ton of money with people like this walking around. We are honestly thinking of spending our money elsewhere....bc this place is simply not what it used to be. The simple fact that you allow children with no morals and discipline to "run" your streets is disturbing....then you wonder why tourism and business don't prosper over there like it used to. It's really sad too, because that place was my favorite and definitely not living up to it's potential. Police officers in that area should worry less about parking tickets and focus on the garbage walking around there and victimizing paying customers.
