Move the black information booths?
They wanted the booths to be where the tourist buses let the people out, so that they could utilize them by having brochures and other info there for the tourists.
The subject of moving the booths is a sore subject.
The city may literally have to buy two streets in the Grove from the county because the county is not pleased with the booths.
The county says they block the right of way in two locations and they want them removed or they want the city to purchase the streets. Isn't it easier and cheaper to remove the booths than buy actual streets?
I still say Paul, the sunglasses guy should be moved to the booth by CocoWalk and as he sells his sunglasses, he could give information to the tourists. He does that on a daily basis right now. You wouldn't believe all the info he gives out to lost tourists every day of the week.

We should sink the booths in the Bay to make an artificial reef. There's no good diving in the Grove right now, and it's shallow enough to become a snorkeling tourist destination!
What a waste of money. If they buy the streets, imagine the cost, not only for the purchase, but for the upkeep. I'm gonna go ahead and bet that they pass that cost right onto the merchants of the grove, just like they do with other wasteful spending.
Get 'em out of here.
The choice is this: a) buy the streets and keep wasting huge amounts of taxpayer money; or b) admit that they were a bad idea, and call it a day at the ($400k, I think) loss.
Which one of those things do you see our council members doing?
Yeah, me too, becuz I also remember all the other times they admitted they were wrong.
Thanks again, Marc, bang up job.
If Miami purchased two streets from the county due to these two booths can that translate into stating Dade County owns all the streets in Miami, Dade County and are responsible for their upkeep? And to carry out this thought even further, does this translate into Dade County owns all the easement right of ways throughout Miami, Florida?
The County screwed up - they approved the booths and then found out they made an error - they should admit they were wrong and live with it. Frankly, I like them there and would like to see them manned and used. The more eyes on the street the better.
No because presently Commodore Plaza and Fuller Street are owned by the City and not the county. So many cities probably own their own streets.
I think they should move all the black kiosks and put them on Sarnoff Circle so we can have a giant monument of his cavalier, self-serving ideas.
Alas... the perfect incompetence of the City of Miami at even considering to hypothetically attempt handling any Cocoanut Grove Village matter.. pathetic.
I can only hope you are reading this, Mr Sarnoff and other so called "representatives' of ours at City Hall, if you're not too busy elsewhere spending our generous, naive and delicious Grove tax-dollars.
I have to add my two cents... Those things really are a total waste from every aspect. Did they just give up on even trying to make it worthwhile? I never see anyone in there! It's truly bizarre.
One must wonder who made a dime or 2 on that despicable Booth deal..
Gee when the idea of the kiosks was brought up everyone thought it was a good idea; then after they went up the County realized they screwed up and everything came to a halt; let's give credit to someone who has some initiatives and takes action unlike previous administrations.
I think more people pee on them than consult them for information....
Let's be positive they are there and thats done.
We have a hugh influx of people coming soon. Try something positive like put Grove information in there. Like Greenstreet is that a way and the hours of the Festival are such and such. No you can't get there from here. The #249 takes you to either metro rail stations for only 25 cents. Here's a map of the Grove with all the business mentioned. Have a beautiful Cocoanut Grove Day!
I think they would make great pinatas! Fill them with treats, hang them up and let Grove Residents take out their frustration with the people that put them in and have a bash fest.
The booths were intended to inspire locals to try out the comments section of the Grapevine.
Annamaria, I don't mean to be insulting, but I truly hope you are kidding. Of course the idea of information booths was to give information to tourists, but it hasn't worked... and it won't in the future. Now the county is demanding that we throw good money after bad to keep them. So now the question is, should we spend hundreds of thousands more on a project that clearly failed, and has never for one moment in the last year, served its intended goal. The answer is simple.
I have never once actually seen a person in the booths. I've seen the people that are supposed to be in there, near the booths, but the look sketchy and disinterested.
And where are we getting this huge influx from? Haven't you heard that we are in the middle of serious recession?
Please do not be too hard on Commissioner Sarnoff reference the information booths. He has done more good that bad! Especially his relentless drive to get of Christabelle's Quarter! It took awhile, but it looks like Commissioner Sarnoff was finally able to get rid of this establishment. We need more politicians like CD2. Let's get behind Commissioner Sarnoff and get him to run for Mayor. As Mayor he will be able to get rid of questionable establishments like 'Christabelle's Quarter'. Take a moment and thank the LORD for bringing Commissioner Sarnoff to our little community. TAKE BACK THE GROVE! Support Sarnoff!
No insult taken.
The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors board hires ladies all the time to man the convention center and other venues when a large contingent of conventioneers are expected. (they wear yellow) We need them here for this 3 day weekend. To hand out information about the Grove the surrounding area. Lets not forget it's not just Mamians who come, this Festival has a following. What have we to lose?
Bill Talbert a Grovite or call Ambassador Plenipotentiary George Neary"s office at the GMCVB they are there to promote all segments of the community including the Grove.
I think the booth near the Post Office is absolutely useless. But the one near Cocowalk seems like it could function as something...maybe a newsstand with coffee, a flower stand, etc. If it was a newsstand, it could still feature maps and brochures of the Grove, AND turn a profit.
