Don't park there if you don't want a ticket
It's a shame that people can't just park and enjoy the festival for one week a year. I don't see how the cars along the tennis courts were bothering anyone.

Very, very true Grape. In one sweep 15 cars were towed. All together I would say about 75 cars were towed. The police went to the home of an artist who had placed art on the right of way, but allowed the art to stay as it was legal. The officer advised me that they were, more or less, to one degree or another, not to write citations or tow cars, but that someone living on Gifford complainted numerous times so they decided to apply the law to appease
this one person. The police bent over backwards to allow parking until these complaints.
This is happening often in the Grove, one person has to complain and then Police or code enforcement start acting. If there is a problem why do people have to complain for things to be done? Are we paying our taxes for our government to just be on standby. Is it the people's responsibility to get their well paid officials to act? This method pits neighbor against neighbor and I am afraid is what the officials have been encouraging. This particular event shows that we have serious parking problems in the Grove. Who has a charter and duty to fix this problem? The only thing this mass towing does is to creates negative and free publicity for the area, and makes the parking problem here a well known fact across town and with tourists. I say to BID, please address this aggressive behavior of the city officials and make it a priority. They are ignoring the core of the problem and creating more unnecessary problems.
another thing. don't block driveways. people kept parking in front of driveways, blocking in residents or people parked in a garage (anokha) and had to be towed. c'mon folks thats just common courtesy.
Though for what its worth EVERY garage has been gouging people this weekend when they can.
you guys are never happy you want the police to act and then when they do you want them to stop. make up your minds also just for the record i live on matilda and lime ct and only a total of about 11 cars were towed not 75 and the cars were towed for matilda and also from oak. what needs to be done is have the sity remove that ugly concrete and tile yard sale sign for oak. what does our neighborhood artist know about the city that we don't. we can't have realty signs but he can have his yard sale sign.
Anonymous, the issue here is that these folks who are coming into the Grove are spending their dollars here and not elsewhere. That is a good thing. The police thankfully look the other way for this particular weekend because of that. It's not like these bad parkers are always there. Assuming you and a few neighbors had these 11 cars towed, it's your perogative, but I'd wager those 22 or so people will not be coming back to the Grove anytime soon.
As for the mosaic sign on Oak, well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The Grove is really not some boring square block, square people kind of a place. Whining anonymously about the parking, the artist's signage (which isn't hurting or blocking anyone), and calling the cops repeatedly to solve silly non-threatening problems, makes me think you would be better off in Plano, Texas.
I originally reported that about 75 cars were towed during each sweep. From my home I saw about three sweeps with each sweep involving about 11 cars. So, I saw about 30/33 cars towed. It is true that I assumed, maybe incorrectly, that they made a sweep about every hour and I did add in an additional four sweeps and added this to what I thought was taking place so I did not actually see 75 tows----sorry. However on Sunday I did not see one car towed and I must assume again that the Grape may have stopped the towing due to the publicity.
i believe that sunday no cars were towed because the cops don't want to do their jobs on sundays.
