City Commish Joe Sanchez to have meet and greet
Mr. Sanchez is running for mayor and has launched a campaigned called "Neighborhoods First." The folks at CGPHA want to ask him exactly when he ever put a neighborhood first, especially when it comes to the Grove. No one can find anything on record proving this.
Tomas Reglado, who also is running for mayor, will speak at a future meeting.
Everyone is welcome, the meeting with Mr. Sanchez is at the Woman's Club (2985 S. Bayshore Drive) at 7 pm on Wednesday, March 4.

The same questions might be asked of the current commissioner from the Grove!
Boy, Grape, not exactly holding back on the journalism with a slant, today, are you? "No one can find anything on record proving this"? They must not have looked very hard. I am glad the CGPHA has invited Joe to discuss his record with them. I think people will be surprised at how many things he has done to support neighborhoods in the eleven years he's been a City Commissioner.
I agree with Grape. Even though I actually son't favor eigher on of them, I've seen much more from Regalado then from Sanchez on Coconut Grove matters.
Residents from Sanchez's district should come out and ask him who's neighborhood he is talking about! They say if you tell a lie often enough, people will believe you. That is the case with his slogan "neighborhoods first". It is a total joke!
Other than her personal support for Joe Sanchez, has Michelle Neimeyer really looked at his voting record? Does she know anything else about him other than he charms ALL women? Does she know that he changed the hours to accomodate himself and make it difficult for residents to be able to speak on PZ items without getting fired from their jobs? He forgets he is a PAID elected official, not a private business man. No more Joe!
"journalism with a slant?"
this is a blog, not a newspaper Ms. Niemeyer biased options are certainly acceptable. As are generalizations without specifics like your response.
I was sent the link to this. As a resident of District 3, I can't wait to hear what the commissioner that did nothing for many of us has to say! Thank you for posting. We will be there.
Since Commissioiner Sarnoff is going to endorse Joe, he is OKAY in my book!
I'm sure that's news to Commissioner Sarnoff who has been been outvoted by Comm. Sanchez in his district! The only Commish voting for the best interest of the Grove has been, and will be, Tomas Regalado.
Michelle:
Is that true about Commissioner Sarnoff?
Joe is FOR the Grove Harbour project and FOR the Marlins Stadium. This makes me AGAINST Joe Sanchez for mayor. He likes to piss money away and piss people off.
Joe Sanchez, as Chairman, lobbied for the Mercy Project, remember? "At the end of the day" when you vote for someone the has continuously been supportive of special interest and not the best interest of the residents, you get what you voted for!
Heres my problem with a lot of people in the city (and the world)
They only remember the LAST thing you did. So lets say Joe votes against grove harbour and people start to support him. Whats to say that he just did that to win?
I've heard he went to little haiti last week, in his neighborhood first campaign. Whats to say he will ever step foot again?
I have a good memory and my vote is not going for sanchez.
I haven't heard of anyone good running or considering running (besides me and my campaign is limited to comments on grapevine), but Michele, could you do me a favor and list one? I mean to come on and say "people will be surprised at how many things he has done to support neighborhoods" without even a single anecdotal example strikes me as disingenuous.
OK, here are a few things, off the top of my head: 1) In the 10 years Joe has been the District 3 Commissioner, thousands of trees have been planted there; 2) parks have been improved for the people there; 3) he drives his district regularly with the City Manager to show him things that need to be fixed and code issues that need to be taken care of; 4) since he's been their Commissioner, District 3 has built over 2,000 units of affordable housing, making it possible for residents to afford to stay; 5) as Chair of the DDA he's whipped that organization into shape and noticeable changes have been made in downtown Miami; 6) he's listened to neighbors' concerns about projects ... many Grovites may fault Joe for his vote on Mercy but don't forget the Village Council supported it, as did the neighboring homeowners' associations, and gave his support only after requesting a significant limitation on the height of the project; 7) he's been effective in forcing owners in his district to either repair or tear down derelict buildings that were an eyesore and danger to the neighborhoods where they were located; 8) Joe's been supportive of bike lanes and the development of pedestrian and bike-friendly transportation routes; 9) Joe initiated and supported initiatives that helped revive the business district in Little Havana.
I don't give my support without due diligence. I hope this begins to help you understand why I support Joe to be our next Mayor. While some are busy defending the status quo or hope to turn the clock back, Joe has made tough decisions intended to move this City forward out of bankruptcy, and out of being a national laughingstock. We need a Mayor who can represent us well, and who can understand the needs of the residents who live here. Joe can do that.
Finally, to the person who asked if I know if Commissioner Sarnoff will be supporting Joe, I do not know. That is a question that should be asked of Marc directly.
As an animal activist, I applaud Sanchez for introducing the Tether Ordinance in the City, which is really a boost for our cause and I know many Grovites care for animals.
At least Sanchez is actually doing something...it's easy to vote no all the time and offer no solutions.
