Big plans for 4th of July include a block party

This year for 4th of July, closing down Commodore Plaza may be part of the plan. Folks need something to do between the picnic at The Barnacle earlier in the day and the fireworks and Peacock Park activities later in the day.

A block party would be the thing to fill in the gap. It would of course be a lot about the restaurants on Commodore -- having them flow into the street, offering special foods and drinks that day and making the whole street a party and picnic type atmosphere.

The rest of the Grove would be encouraged to bring their wares outside too -- sales on the sidewalks, more food and drinks at other locations -- red, white and blue all over. It would be one big event.

For those who complained about the few antique cars taking up parking spots, what are you gonna do when all of Commodore Plaza is closed? Boycott the 4th of July?

That's a solid idea, if slightly unfair to anyone not on Commodore, but that evens things out from everything being centered around cocowalk for every other event.

And really, do you think it's a good idea to take a swat at more than half your readers? I don't. Old cars idea was dumb, this will actually draw people - the two are incomparable.

You used the word "May" be part of the plans; is it part of some plan?

Sales on the sidewalks. Sales on the sidewalks, Sales on the sidewalks. Sales on the sidewalks.
Sales on the sidewalks. Where have we heard that before?

No one in a position of authority knows anything about this car idea.
Specifically, say again, where did the Grape get the idea antique cars were going to be parked in Grove and then tell us who then advised you it wasn't going to happen.

Felice Dubin's idea. She and Steve Licata brought it up at the last Merchant's meeting, it's in the minutes, which you can get from Daisy.

They were trying to get the cars this weekend. Tony and his crew from the Antique Market have access to the cars and are more than willing to set them up when needed.

We don't make up the news here.

Got an idea, why not make it some kinds of special event and get all the Cars that the local
VW group has, now they are fun, attractive some are art-cars and definitely they are vintage
Maybe not antiquated enough.

sidewalk sales (by any grove business) needs to be allowed for every event Coconut grove hosts. It adds to the festive atmosphere, draws people in, allows the businesses to better serve the crowds without delay and overall just kicks ass.

Somebody, what's the protocol in that regard? How do we get a permanent exception for grove events?
