Why can't they just be nice at the post office?

Went to the Grove post office this morning to pick up a letter that was too large to fit in the mailbox.

I brought the slip of paper and went up to the window. There's a sign on the door that says: "Package pick up daily from 10:00 to 10:30 am."

Not much time for a pick up, but I was there at that time. There was no one at the window when I was there and yet, I stood there waiting for about 10 minutes. But I stood there and waited until she was good and ready to say good morning (which she never did) with my mouth shut and didn't say anything. I was polite.

Well, the lady you see inside the window there would not get me the mail. She told me to go into the main room to the main counter.

But seconds before, the lady at the main counter sent everyone out to this window with an announcement saying, "If you are only picking something up, please go to the window in the outside lobby, you don't have to wait in line here at the counter," which had many people waiting to mail things.

I hate this post office, but I do like that they finally added a self-serve mail machine, you can see the one man using it to the right. I prefer to use the UPS store down the block for shipping though -- they are nicer, competent and not rude to the paying customers. The UPS Store is actually part of the Grove community. The Post Office crew always acts like they are not part of the Grove and are very hostile.

These post office workers need to take a road trip to the post office near 17th Avenue and Coral Way. The people who work there are quite different. They are overly friendly if that is possible. They smile, laugh and talk to everyone as if they are family.

The postmaster (or postmistress) for the branch sets the tone, and the employees follow the lead given them. A bad postmaster can make a branch a misery for the customers and the employees. A good one makes a branch a pleasure.

I think it's interesting that the PO is not actually in the 33133. The zip code for the PO is 33233. They just aren't real "Grove-ites" and it really shows in service, attitude and all the ridiculous signs in the parking lot! :-(

The 33233 Zip code is only for post office boxes at this location; otherwise it is the post office for 33133.

I would ask to speak to the manager/supervisor and complain big time. Threaten to go over his head to his boss if you have to.
I alway's go out of my way to be nice to these people because my brother is a letter carrier for the post office but I refuse to be talked down to by them.

Somehow I always have a good experience with the staff at this office. It would be nice if the PO Box room were open in the evenings though.

Now you will all bitch and complain till the post office is closed. Then you will all go nuts saying that there should be a post office in the Grove and we shouldn't have to drive to the Gables.

Be careful for what you wish for!!

Honestly, I always have been treated really good in that PO. I go there with a positive and happy attitude and I received the same.

I feel your pain. When time is an issue, I always drive to the Shenandoah branch, even though I live and work in 33133. However, with the parking lot closed for so long and long lines waiting for service, it must have been miserable for the Coconut Grove employees too.
