There are too many eyesores around town these days

street1
It's a shame that the Grove looks so derelict these days, especially during tourist season.

Harry Emilio Gottlieb took one of his walks and he took these photos. Ironically, this graffiti is practically touching the Info/Security booth, and if the booths were ever manned, this wouldn't have happend, at least not right near the booths.

I often wonder about the brick sidewalks. I'm not sure how they are allowed to get like this. I know if this was at our condo building, the neighbors would be all over it. It's a law suit waiting to happen. We had so many people visit the Grove for the Taste of the Grove and the Antique Market and now the Arts Festivals are coming up and this is what they are presented with.

This one corner at the end of Commodore Plaza is a mess. There's no reason why this entrance to the prettiest street in the Grove should look like this. Some flowers and a park bench would fix it up and give it some class.

Maybe it's time for Sue McConnell and her crew to get out there again and fix things up on that corner. They did such an excellent job last time.

Last I heard, The Grove pays a lot of taxes to the City of Miami. Where do they spend that money? Last time in '07 the neighbors had to volunteer..

Is that really graffiti? Or is it locates markings? I've always hated that locates has to mark brick sidewalks or driveways, but if someone is scheduled to dig, install a lightpole, etc. it could save lives.

Although we still have the most beautiful part of the city, the eyesores around Coconut Grove are nothing new. The City Commission is completely oblivious.

If you call the NET office, they'll give you the email address for Graffiti Busters, who will come out and clean up graffiti.

More eyesores are at the intersection of Main Hwy and Douglas Rd. - approximately 27 signs with various traffic related messages. And this does not include the twelve large black and yellow arrows (needed for safety).

As you enter the Grove on Main Hwy, there are another 32 signs to greet you. It's bizarre.

It is not grafitti. It is a marking showing electric, water, etc. It is done before digging.

If you think that looks bad, what about the planters full of dead foliage in front of the closed Pisco's on Mary Street. Flowers may look nice, but if no one waters and prunes them, they just become eyesores.

Have you ever seen sidewalks marked up for construction with what looks a lot like graffiti paint in Coral Gables, Miami Beach and Key Biscayne? I have not. Or is this an effort by the City of Miami to add some color to Coconut Grove! We are colorful enough and wish that the City of Miami would please be so kind as to keep their paint off of our sidewalks, especially if that paint takes weeks or months to wash away.

There a man that must live around the dog park; about 5' 11", svelte, mustache, dirty blond hair.
For years I've seen him picking up the trash that people throw from vehicles or simply clean out the trash from their cars onto the ground. I mention this because I accomplish the same on my street or if I'm walking to the business section----why not, It's my community. In fact, on occasion I've taken the time to set a couple of bricks back where they came from if they just became loose. Instead of taking the time and energy to take some pictures of these eye sores and complain about the city why not bend over and get your hands dirty!
