More harassment from the City of Miami Code Enforcement

code-violations
Code Enforcement is now hitting the homeowners. We got an inch high packet of code violations for our condo building. The only problem is that out of that inch high bunch of papers, I think we only had one real violation -- the elevator room needs cleaning out, which Sylvia did in about 15 minutes.

The rest of the violations were a bunch of B.S. and not valid. They are threatening to fine us $500 for each violation if we don't comply. But we are in compliance and have always been in compliance. I am quite neurotic as you know, and as the condo prez, I keep the place ship shape.

Three photos are above -- we were given citations for all three -- but the proof of us being in compliance is right here. All items above show tags of inspection. All are up to date.

At left is one fire extinguisher, all have tags and are not up for inspection for a few months, we were told by Code Enforcement that they were not tagged or up to date. Lies.

Next is the fire sprinkler pump. We were told that it is not tagged or up to date, but it is tagged and up to date, in fact, we had some work done on it just a few months ago and all is in perfect working order.

Next is the fire box. They say it is not working. I guess they cannot read the message that clearly states "All Systems Normal." Aside from the weird date on the screen it works perfectly (sorry about the blurry picture, I took it with a cell phone). In fact when it is not working it beeps non-stop and drives us all out of our skulls, so it is always in working order.

I called the fire extinguisher company this morning to bitch about their lack of service. They told me that we are not due for service for a few months and that we are in compliance. They then asked if we were in the City of Miami. I told them yes. They then told me that they have received many, many calls about this from City of Miami residents, and no one who was cited has been in violation.

I think Code Enforcement has stooped to a new low. First the clubs and restaurants, then the parking issues and now they want to harass residents. Is it any wonder the Grove wants to leave the City forever?

And what do our "representatives" do about this non-sense? Ignore it, as usual, as they ignore many other aberrations going on.. What does Sarnoff think about this, The City of Miami trying to milk the Grove as much as possible, anyway possible with taxes, parking, fines, harrassment, etc? I hear he and other of our so-called "representatives" read this blog.. Great, but do they reply to anything or do anything about these blatant injustices? Of course not.

This kind of Abuse, utter Negligence and sheer Nonsense will continue until the Cocoanut Village becomes its own City.

This is clear harrassment. The question is how do we stop it. Everyone I have talked to say they have no control over the Code Enforcement henchmen. Sarnoff claims to not be able to do anything. Who can help us? I'm so sick of this, and can now only think of one solution. We sue. That's one way to bring this to everyone's attention: start costing the city money. Who's interested?

Guys - for those of us who live and work on the other side of US 1 - I can attest to the fact that the problem is NOT with the Grove.

We all deserve a better more efficient municipal government.
