I think they complain just for the sake of complaining

There's a new building going up next to Senior Frogs. It's going up slowly, and methodically.

The owner has no plans for it yet, he honestly does not know what will go in there or who may want to rent it.

But already, there have been complaints about noise, from the usual suspects -- the neighbors who live in the area. Not construction noise. Noise that might be in the future!

They don't even know what it is and they are lodging their complaints.

It think it is high time that these misfits move out of the Grove to maybe the Everglades or maybe to an old age home where they can be miserable in peace.

I know a nice realtor named Riley; the market is ripe for good deals, perhaps these complainers should call Riley up and make an offer on a sound proof bomb shelter or bunker, you know, some place way underground, far away from humanity -- just the way they like it.

Frankly I think it is better to stop it at the pass than wait til it is too late. Good example is Cabana One - no one knew that would be an open air club with music blasting from the roof. If they know what the restrictions are going in, they can buy the proper compliant speakers, and maybe the Bldg. Dept can check the permits more closely BEFORE it becomes a problem.

Hey!

I know another good realtor: "Tony".

(Although Riley is excellent, too.)

Great idea - let's stop people from legally BUILDING A BUILDING that may annoy someone at some unknown point in time for noise which may or may not emanate from the building.

I guess that means you should also stop Grape...I'm sure you probably annoy someone, so you better "stop it at the pass" so no one gets upset!

Of course, if the building was a school for mimes, maybe everyone would be happy...probably not though.

Look on the city's website under the commission agendas and go to zoning. You'll see who has an appeal to stop a new restaurant at 3484 Main Highway.

What a bunch of old fuddy duddies. I live very close to Cabana One and its rare that I hear music there. When I do, I block it out. Its a waste of time, energy, and health to get all bent out of shape about it. Plus they live in the CITY of Miami!!!

Pardon my French, but these people are so tight that if you shove a lump of coal up their a$$, in 2 weeks you will have a diamond.

This is just ridiculous. Does anyone know who these clowns are or where they even live. I think I'll have my assistant do a little investigating. I suspect ulterior motives. No one lives that close to this building, unless they're in a refrigerator box in the alley out back.

Or maybe, just maybe, businesses in the Grove could comply with the noise ordinance, and the planning board could actually adhere to the zoning restrictions.

I suspect that the people here complaining about the "fuddy duddies" would sing a different tune if the noise was next to their home.

For the record Patrick, and I pray that you read this, these people live on bayshore. So, no noise will bother them. Second, why are you assuming that a place that hasn't opened wouldn't follow the noise ordinance? That's simply not a logical conclusion- new business means bad mgt.???? There are no homes next to this business, only a parking lot two restaurants and a storage building. Who's going to be bothered. I assume that you're just being contrary for the sake of it... good job I guess.

Everyone here lives with noise. What about the people who work at night and live behind a school? Let's create a new ordinance and make all the kids shut up so they can sleep. As much as Sarnoff doesn't want to admit it, Coconut Grove is an entertainment district. "Controlled" noise should be acceptable. I do agree that businesses that blast there music loud should not be allowed to do so, but there are only 1 or 2 places now that do that.

Wow look at everyone calling the kettle black. The people above in questions donate mucho dinero when needed to the proper people such as the District 2 Commissioner. And frequently hang out with his Chief of Staff. Isn't the District 2 office trying to limit late night activities in the Grove as well (in addition to what he has already done)?
