27th Avenue entrance into the Grove was discussed

The Grove entrance at 27th Avenue on US1 was discussed at last week's Merchant's Meeting.

Many feel it needs to be cleaned up and signs need to introduce the Grove to people passing by or entering. Dave Collins of the BID said that one blue sign is planned to go near Crook and Crook. It will say "Welcome to the Village of Coconut Grove," but it will be one of those ugly metal county signs. Others want a real entrance sign.

The Shell gas station use to have nice palm trees on their corner, it was part of their agreement when the station was opened. They were to maintain a nice entrance area with the trees and plants. There was a sign there, too, that was donated by a local artist, but that disappeared around Hurricane Wilma as part of trash pick ups.

Haydee from the NET office will look into this issue with a few others and they'll see if a little class can be added to the area, introducing our Village in a clean and proper way.

While they're cleaning it up, could they attempt and fix the traffic problem? I live just beyond 27th Ave, and I've noticed that there are only left arrows when it isn't rush hour! So frustrating and dangerous. People pull into the middle to turn all the time.

Once upon a time there was a wonderful sign by Crook and Crook, it was wood and had city logo on it. Every community you enter around the state and Miami has a "Gateway" that welcomes visitors to their unique world, representing what is special about them.
The wood sign was hit by a car and was to be replaced. the One Ear Society championed the replacement via an artistic touch. We are the home of OVER 250 artist plus, + not to mention one of the premier art-festivals. Hellooooo!!!!

You can't make a turn onto/outoff US1 during rush hour. That's when we grovites must bow to our neighbors down south. If we could -make that turn- their commute would be longer and their comfy life at a gazillion miles from their work areas would be a pain. God forbid, they may have to use the rail.../sarcasm off

I have always loved this welcome sign in the beautiful town of Golden Colorado.

Even with it's cheesy "hody folks" it fits their community and the town.

What if we had a welcome to coconut grove arch like sign oover 27th that embodied our town's character? I mean we have enough artist to figure this out.

The entire 27th AV needs to be revamped, worked on with a good, thorough plan and some TASTE. Cocoanut Grove Style, Not McDonalds plastic stuff..

From US1 down to South Baysore DR, 27th ave is a MESS. We don't even have a have-decent, uninterrupted SIDEWALK for pedestrians, let alone bike space.. People walking of biking there better gear up, it's a 4x4 cross-country experience..

Much like Tiger Tail, it's like a Mine Field, holes, gravel, or even South Bayshore Dr,pedestrians and bikes at their oun Risk, a real adventure..

You'd think that the City of Miami would have taken care of all that Decades Ago, with the kind of Taxes we pay here in the Grove..

Nah.. that money goes elsewhere, anywhre but back to the Grove. Try e-mailing guys like Sarnoff.. good luck on a reply or any action taken.

This mess will continue until the Cocoanut Grove Village becomes its own City.

Here's a example, a nice sign for the City of Key Biscayne:

The Grove could pick its own motif, boats on the Bayside would be a good idea, since most places don't have what we have..

Did we not just spend thousands of dollars to develop a plan to rebuild and clean up 27th ave, what happened to that??? There was supposed to be a circle at tigertail and 27th and all. Hellooo, why do we keep burning money and nothing happens.

Coconut Grove is a unique village community with its own history, coulter, pace and lifestyle.
We have been able to retain some of our uniqueness in spite of the illegal annexation by Miami in 1925.
We have even been able to remain unique in spite of Miami elected leaders that keep trying to change us by illegal spot zoning, permitting overly commercial business in our residential community, permitting faux Mediterranean architecture that does not belong here and charging us illegal fire fee taxes and then compensating us with a 25% return after a lengthy court battle.
Yes we desire a distinctive entrance to Coconut Grove on 27th Ave and on every principle entrance to our unique village.
There should be a distinctive entrance on US1 & 37 AV, US1 & McDonalds, US1 % 27 AV. US1 & Bay shore, Grand near the Cartagena Shoes, US1 & 17, US1 & 22 AV.
The entrances should be more then just a pole in the air with a sign on it.
The entrances need to be distinctively designed out of coral rock.
The entrances need to demonstrate the Groves uniqueness, our charm, artistry, quaintness, timelessness, the fact that we where here long before Miami and the fact that we shall be here long after Miami.

I can produce any sign, any size from beautiful art tiles that can withstand any and all weather conditions. I can surround the mural with beautiful drift wood and other items of interest from flotsam from the beaches of the Florida Keys and I will do it for free to help my community.
