We need a free trolley system to draw business to the Grove

The Gables trolley, which is free, has apparently increased business for everyone in the Miracle Mile and Ponce de Leon area by quite a substantial amount.

The trolley picks up people at the Metrorail station on 37th Avenue and transports people to the Gables. Why not here? By the way, isn't that Metrorail station in the Grove? Are they coming to the Grove and "taking" people away?

Why can't the BID, Merchant's Association or Village Council arrange that for the Grove? Maybe this can be part of the BID assessments? The trolley must be free to get people to hop on and come to the Grove because if faced with the free Gables trolley or a paid ride to Coconut Grove, we know which people will choose. Plus a free trolley says, "We want you. Be our guest!"

How about a free trolley that picks up tourists on South Beach and brings them to and from the Grove?

According to City Commissioner Tomas Regalado, at today's City Commission meeting, advertising on the trolleys defrays costs of running a free trolley system. I would gladly have a Grapevine ad on the side of a trolley bringing people to Coconut Grove from various Metrorail and/or pick-up stops.

This makes too much common sense for the City of Miami. Lets please focus back on Building Offices on water front, and traffic circles.

Possibly, a trolley would also be effective if it ran from Viscaya to the village. Viscaya does a brisk tourism business. I believe that many of those visitors would enjoy a quick trip to the Grove. If they wanted to, they could stop at Monty's or Kennedy Park in between. It's a natural fit.

I think a trolley from the Grove to the Beach and back and forth is a Great Idea!

It's a great idea, too bad that if it's done in the grove, which makes sense, every commissioner is going to want a trolley for their district as well- even if 3 people ride it.

"The trolley picks up people at the Metrorail station on 37th Avenue and transports people to the Gables. Why not here?"

Could it be because Gables manages its own revenues and spends it where they see fit? They also have free parking and other goodies to attract visitors and Business. Try selling that to the City of Miami, which administers the Grove's tax contributions.

At least we get those nice horses sporadically seen on the streets, though.

I did't mean why can't the Gables trolleys take people to the Grove. I meant why can't we do it here with our own trolleys.

How much more in taxes would I have to pay?

There has been a Coconut Grove "trolley" ever since I moved here - only it's called the "Circulator". It picks up at both the 27th Ave. and Douglas Road Metro Stations, goes through Center Grove and loops up to City Hall every fifteen minutes. It costs 25 cents.

The first thing to do is to get the coconut grove circular to run on a regular schedule.
I have waited 1 hour at night and on the weekends for it and then 2 come by with in 200 yrds of each other.
(I missed the tail gate party at the Orange Bowl!).
It is our link to Metrorail and if you can't depend on it to get you where you need to go on time (work etc) it won't be used.
