New steakhouse opening in the Grove next weekend

Speaking of restaurants, Angelo and Maxie’s Steakhouse, the classic New York City restaurant, is set to open its second location at the Mayfair Hotel and Spa on Saturday, November 15, 2008. A grand opening is planned for November 14, for press and other invited guests.

A favorite New York City destination for 12 years has been transported to Coconut Grove by Angelo and Maxie’s owners Peter Kay and Reed Goldstein. The restaurant name comes from the song “Lullaby on Broadway” from the musical “42nd Street."

According to their press release the steakhouse is: "Reminiscent of a 1930’s Cuban sugar plantation, the diner's journey begins along hand-scrapped wide plank hardwood floors and plantation shutters that filter the tropical light onto the custom millwork walls, inlaid with mirrors that send a sparkle throughout the restaurant. A grand field stone spiral staircase leads you to the upper-level of the 220 seat, bi-level venue that houses a separate private wine tasting room that seats private parties of up to 12 people. The rich textures and colors provide masculine ambiance complimented by a feminine elegance that is seamlessly translated into the diverse American cuisine."

The hefty menu at Angelo and Maxie's provides a wide array of dishes including their famous steaks, lamb, chicken, fish and more.

Do we have to mortgage our house to go there?

Oh good, just what Miami needs, yet another steak house! Miami is the most over-steaked city in America.

The chef is Donna Wynter, formerly of Balleen, and also the Biltmore Hotel. She's very talented. The atmosphere is beautiful, as well.

Yeah, I'll bring some friends from outta town to that place in December. But they also want to go to Ruth's Chris or Morton's,, just bigger names I suppose.

I checked the prices here and they seem reasonable.

I actually went to the opening of Angelo and Maxie's on Saturday night and had a fantastic time. I ordered a French Onion Soup, side of sweet potato and the grilled Tuna Steak. The food was delicious (ESPECIALLY the French Onion Soup... best one I've had since I visited Europe) and the wait staff was very friendly.

The menu is reasonably priced and the portions are enormous. The side of sweet potato was the size of two regularly-sized sweet potatoes.

I definitely recommend it!
