I hope they do the same on McDonald Street. People often take advantage of the 3/4 mile long no traffic light, no stop sign, straight shot to Bird.
True enough:
A cyclist was killed today in Broward, and they have way-more off-the-car people and roads than we do in Dade, 3rst worst City rated by Bicying.com in the Nation, not to mention Europe or some third-world cities that are way ahead, places like Bogota, not to mention Amsterdam.
Even New York is a LOT more biker friendly. If you care to post this link, Grapevine have WAYS to go to catch up with the Leaders, Europe and so on.

How about some bright signs saying "Caution: Mind the pedestrians-and your speed" or something, I would hate for even those cops like the one in the photo to get hit. For some reason, when people get off say US 1 & come into the grove, they drive like they're still allowed the same speed limits & crap behavior they use there. I know people in general have crappy personal road rules (i.e., I can do whatever as long as I don't get caught) but I would love to see police out like this all the time, especially Thurs. & Fri afternoons/evenings.
You know what's really wack? The speed limit that's posted in my neighborhood on Swanson Ave. It's 30 mph. In comparison, the speed limit on Old Cutler Road from the Red Road heading towards Matheson Hammock is 35 mph. I got pulled over for doing 45. In no way does that speed seem excessive on that stretch of road. I rationalized with the cop of the absurdity of the speed limit being 35 on a main thoroughfare vs. the 30 mph in all SFLA neighborhoods. He actually agreed and surprisingly did not give me a ticket. Small victory yes, but the current speed limits still exist.
I sincerely think that they need to be rethought and changed. The 30 mph in our neighborhoods seems totally wreckless especially when our streets are filled with kids, pedestrians, many, many dog-walkers, bikers, neighbors chatting and even golf carts! The sidewalks really aren't utilized because they are not contiguous, but that's not the problem. It's so scary when you've stopped on the side of the road, holding your dog's leashes taut, and a driver actually has the indecency to accelerate as they speed off to the next stop sign (where they don't stop). Where is the courtesy of holding off the gas and coasting by for a few seconds?
Please send that cop to our N. Grove-hood on any morning, noon and especially afterwork. They'll make their quotas for the month in a day.
Do speed limits with off-numbers work? For example, what if the limit on McDonald were 23MPH and in the neighborhoods it was 17MPH?
It would be nice to see more policing of the speeders, particularly within the residential blocks.
Hopefully there's no speed traps or enforcement on Grand Avenue between US1 and 32nd.
