She liked the idea of more artists in the Grove
She said she missed the old days when there was art all over, she even mentioned that Winn-Dixie was where Mayfair is now, that's really going back. I don't think she missed the Winn-Dixie, but I think she was just trying to pin down a certain time period. She enjoyed the little stores and galleries in the old houses up and down Virginia and Oak, I remember them, too.
But anyway, she went on about how the Grove had changed so much, but that she sees it is going back in the right direction. I found that quite interesting. People know the Grove as an artists community and she said we need to capitalize on that more. While the Gap and Chili's are great, we need to be something that the rest of Miami isn't in order to draw more tourists.

I couldn't agree more. Yesterday I attended a meeting in Coral Gables, a week ago one on South Beach each lauded the how much money the arts bring in via cultural tourism.
Here are the numbers $922 million every year for Miami Dade.
Miami-Dade is being celebrated worlwide because of its arts scene. According to the NY Times, Miami is the new New York for the arts.
The County is investing $1 billion in Arts Facilities and improving county-wide neighborhood Cultural facilities. including $452 million approved by voters in Building Better Communities (GOB)capital funding.
I'm waiting for the trickle down effect and have been since I started the One Ear Society.
