A couple of Grove-related deaths

Coconut Grove's infamous Greg Gillingham (known as Mr. Halloween) died last Friday in Montevideo, Uraguay. He had been living there with his girlfriend Rebecca for the last couple of years. They think it was a heart attack.

Many old Grovites will remember Greg and his wild Halloween parties at his Tigertail house. Something is being planned in his memory, probably in the next week or so and there is also talk of a tribute in this year's King Mango Strut.

Speaking of the Strut, the Mangoheads are headed to Key West Fantasy Fest next weekend. A bus will be picking up the group near the playhouse on Saturday morning.

Another death felt in the Grove was that of activist Yvonne McDonald who died of cancer last week. Yvonne was an aide to Commissioner Marc Sarnoff and was responsible for many community programs in Village West and was on the Village West Homeowners and Tenants Assoc. and Urban Empowerment Corporation to name a few.

Funeral services are tomorrow at 10 am at Christ Episcopal Church, 3481 Hibiscus Street.
