What is the point of this?

traffic
There is a new median or traffic calming device being put in on Tigertail at the corner of Crystal Court. Why?

Isn't this an historic road? Is this even legal? And aside from rush hour traffic times in the morning and afternoon, when is there ever really any traffic on Tigertail? I actually had to wait a little while for this car to drive by because I wanted a car in the photo, but there were none on the road.

Perhaps it is to calm traffic for peacock crossing? Maybe a public official lives on this corner and it's being put in for his kids as a personal favor.

Whatever the case, it's just another example of tax dollars being wasted. It is not needed and it makes the road ugly.

I saw that, it isn't even a four way intersection, it's only three. Terrible idea, those signs in the middle of the street ruin the ambiance.

I got a request in the mail about end of last year to approve one on Tigertail and Calusa Street. Again on a 3 way, which looks rediculous and there is bearly any room on that street as it is. I voted NO. So there better not be any construction crews !!

Haha! I drove thru this on my way home and said to myself, "WTF is this?!?!?! I wonder if the Grapevine has got a hold of this yet?" Sure enough, you have and you agree with me. This is the stupidest thing Ive ever seen. There is no point to it at all. Anyone who travels down that road knows there are cops on stakeout all the time ready to gun you down with the radar. Especially dumb now because school is back in session and that road is a logjam every afternoon. Youre right, another waste of tax dollars. But hey, at least the City can say they are using OUR money to "improve" OUR neighborhood.

Wow, that is silly and uncalled for.
Unless the intent is to steer you dangerously close to the poor person waiting at the stop sign on your right. Gee, just wondering are these city worker's that do this or is it a private company that has some kind of city contract?

I am sure if the county also reviews this latest idea they will come to the same conclusion of the info booths. They are dangerous. Why do you want to veer traffic towards homes and individuals on bikes and sidewalks. The street is not big enough for this type of device. The lighting on this street is weak. There will be plenty of accidents. How do these projects get approved?? Sure hope they stop before Tigertail gets another 4 or more of these. Now how about the 27th ave expansion starting??????

Why is it that everything our city does ends up a total disaster. I have just about had it with the ridiculous decisions and misplaced attempts at "helping" Coconut Grove (info booths anyone??).

I 100% agree that something needs to be done on Tigertail. I wont even let my girlfriend walk our dogs on that road and I personally know someone who had one of his dogs struck and killed while he was walking them one early evening (hes lucky HE wasnt killed).

Our street worked so hard to get a 3 way stop installed on Esopanola Dr only to have EVERYONE run it a full speed daily (yes I am talking to you, you hypocritical residents who asked for the signs then run them as if they arent even there). Installing our 3 way stop has made a bad situation even worse. I have asked multiple times from our police and politicians for ANY KIND of enforcement of the stop signs and NOTHING not a damned thing.

BTW- They tore down a bunch of trees to install the new Tigertail circle. I saw and read each of the 6-7 signs that were posted on the trees.

Lets add un-enforced traffic signs, lets install militant style info booths, tear down an expo center that brings in millions of dollars to our community and lets tear down a bunch of trees at our post office. Why not tear down some more trees and install a dangerous and ugly traffic circle, kick out the artists that made the Grove what it is and lets kill all the beautiful peacocks while were at it.

I love City of Miami and cant wait to send them to Hell.

I still haven't seen the final plans. If it's a loopty loop, I'm all for it. In theory, it reminds me of the MacArthur Causeway where the 11 bicyclists were run over -- suddenly the road shrinks, it's funneled into something narrower and increases the danger to all.

$67,000 is the total cost in materials and labor for this street construction. (My guess which includes the time, salaries, paperwork, and overhead of the Dept. of Public Works staff and employees that spent office hours dedicated to this).

*** MEETING TONIGHT. Please come to tonight's meeting of local residents who will separate Coconut Grove from the City of Miami. It's at 6:pm at Flavour next to the Sonesta Hotel. This money spending craziness has got to stop.

I really like the new median. It gives the Grove character just like the homeless people.

Living on Tigertail for 30 years now, I think this critique must be a invoking a definition of 'no traffic' with which I've not previously been familiar. The street desperately needs traffic calming devices, the neighborhood has been agitating FOR them for years, and here's a vote for more.

Tigertail has been waiting nine years for these traffic circles.
