Village Council discusses peacocks
One lady who lives on Micanopy feeds animals, mostly cats on the street on Micanopy, and that may be a big reason why the birds flock to that area. Council member, Gary Hecht will speak with code enforcement about this, but maybe they can just speak with the lady. Is this a code enforcement issue -- feeding stray animals, I mean.
The best solution, according to the neighbors would be to relocate them (the peafowl, not the nuisance neighbor who feeds them) to other areas of the Grove.
I don't know if the parks are a safe environment for the peafowl (peacocks and peahens), because of all of the people, but Peacock Park is a natural and so is Kennedy Park.
An avian expert may be brought in and perhaps the expert can come up with a solution. But that is up to the City now (another great reason why the Grove needs to start calling our own shots and not always having to defer to the City).

I would just ask that they move them somewhere away from traffic. I've nearly run over one of them on at least a couple of occasions, in recent weeks. They seem to need to cross 22nd Ave. in the morning. Maybe it's the feeding call?
I live in the south grove and we have tons of peacocks/peahens on our street. I do love them (their majestic beauty) and love seeing frustrated motorists being forced to slow down on my quiet narrow street when the birds just won't budge but...people who feed them and the neighborhood cats really do cause significant problems and there should be some regulations in place. Our neighbor drops gigantic cans of cat food all over – on at least three blocks, and spreads birdseed. The food attracts all kinds of animals and creates a major nuisance for people who walk their dogs and have to pull them away from the piles of cat food. The cats are extremely fat, and ants end up covering the food. The poor peacocks and cats no longer know how to find their own food! I am a huge animal lover but there has to be a better way.
I say just put up a sign that says: Free - Peacocks to a good home. Get some press on it, and invite folks to take and adopt them. That surely can't be against code.
