Rumor has it . . .
A local businessman and Grove champion just bought an interest in a restaurant outside the Grove, not too far from here, on Coral Way.
Many feel he should put his money where his mouth (and job) is. But I don't know how I feel. Guess it is a slap in the face to the Grove, but maybe there was nothing for him to invest in around here.

It is absurd that anyone actually considers this an issue. If this businessman were buying stocks, would the same people be complaining that he wasn't buying stocks in companies from the grove?
I love the grove. However, if I wanted to invest in or open a restaurant, I seriously doubt I would be looking in the grove. Unfortunately, Grove landlords have historically not priced their units to be good investments for their tenants. Period.
Many people in the Grove, including business owners, invest in other parts of the City. It should serve as an eye opener to landlords here that their rents are excessive. Others do well in the Grove and expand to other venues. It is no worse than buying a second home in the Keys or N.C.
You cant blame the guy for wanting to start a business elsewhere. The Grove is struggling right now. Sure, there are a few new places but they havent been here long enough to determine whether they will last. This guy taking his chances in the Gables is a better business decision right now.
Ive also heard of a local Grove restaurateur who is looking to sell one space but keep the business and rent instead to free up capital...
What's with the complaining about how other people spend their money? I don't get that at all.
It is a business decision nothing against the Grofe. Its wize to have a diversified portfolio. I adore the heck out of the Grove but I do not like being trapped by only going there and no where else.
This post is a bit too much. Almost sounds like the Grove is a little bit of a dictatorship. Since when does the Grove police the pocketbook of its business owners? Jaw dropping comment. Business is business.
If the Grove ever does secede, its community activists are going to turn on us, and on each other, like a pack of starving cannibals.
It all depends who and what kind of citizen the business owner is. If the culprit is an impartial business owner, then fine, but if the owner is involved in local politics then definitely there are valid questions to be asked.
Why? What "valid questions" should be asked?
One question that comes to mind is Why should I pay this person's salary to promote our community when he is putting the money I pay him into another community? This guy's whole gig is based on making money off local Grove businesses and living off Grove property owners. And now he wants us to invest "here" and he can invest "there"?
It's like if the mayor lived in another city. Doesn't make sense.
