What's with the rusty bicycles?

I noticed this odd thing at the waterfront, near the Seminole Boat Ramp and the marina -- various bike racks full of bikes -- old, rotten bikes. Most looked abandoned.

Do they belong to the live aboards? Did these people park their bikes and just disappear into the bay, never to return?

Actually one of those bikes belongs to me. I should just go down and trash it. When I first moved to the neighborhood, I was a live aboard in the anchorage. My bike was there about 1 week when someone stole the handlebars and other various parts from it and stole my other bicycle completely.

Coconut grove is the only anchorage I have ever been where people have damaged our sailboat, our tender, our bicycles. It doesn't say much for the trash that walks around this neighborhood.

However, with that said. I love it here. My wife and I have moved off our boat and are now renting in the neighborhood and looking to buy. I'm very much looking forward to moorings being put in and the free anchorage removed.

I once was a strong supporter of the free anchorage, but after seeing the squatters that live in the water out there and the amount of vandalism related to them, I'm happy to see the new moorings come in.

Thanks for the great blog.
