TREEmendous job done with tree planting
I actually went looking for them, but could not find the group, I circled the block many times and drove up US1, but apparently I missed them.
Luckily Harry Emilio Gottlieb was out there and he got these photos.
They planted some nice hearty trees along the highway, alongside the elevated Metrorail tracks.

Hi All:
I am on the board of the Treemendous Miami organization and would encourage anyone interested to come out and join us. You can help in a number of ways ($$$). If you like what we have been doing on US1 and other places, how about lending your support. www.treemendousmiami.org.
appologies to grapevine for this shameless self-promotion but thought the cause worthy.
Thanks - Len
I think planting leafy things around the City is absolutely great but I have to question the planting practices.
Unless there was a plan to form hedges, those holes are placed way too close together. And viewing the post planting results, I also question who decided to place the plants. There seemed to be no thought regarding grouping of similar plants with similar growing needs together?
I fear that down the road a lot of these plants will be overshadowed and die due to improper placement.
Was there a horticulturalist involved in planning?
Len Scinto:
Yes there were several "experts" involved and Steve Pearson of the committee for the Beautification of Miami headed the project. treemendous helped get volunteers to do the work. Many individuals worked on the plan and there is actually a lot of thought to it. For instance there are areas that focus on Native plants only. Additionally, holes are close together on purpose with the expectation that some "shrubby" plants are juxtaposed with tall plants so that dimensionality develops. That said volunteer groups like ours are always looking for input from "experts" willing to add their time. We do the best we can and heavily rely on people with various "expertise". If you are one such person please help by volunteering with our group. Look at the website I posted to see if you recognize names from some of the very active horticultural groups involves.
