Where is the Center of Town?

Many people have a problem with me mentioning The Bookstore all the time and calling it the "center of town." Not sure why.

And why are people comparing it to Books and Books? I don't consider it a literary giant, I consider it the neighborhood bookstore.

I call The Bookstore the "Center of town" NOT the "Center of the Universe" simply because it tends to be a meeting place for many people. And every time I am there, there are many people that I know. I am not saying it is the greatest business in the world or has the best coffee or books or whatever. I simply call it the center of town because it seems to be.

When I walk in, I literally see so many people I know, friends, people from the Village Council or BIC or other merchants from the Grove. It just tends to draw everyone. And they aren't always looking for books, they are hanging out and being neighborly. Although I guess Felice and Sandy would love for everyone to buy books, too -- and coffee and pastries.

Where do you consider the center of town? I don't mean logistically on a map, I mean, where do you tend to hang out, meet people, take visitors BEFORE you go off to shop or eat or whatever. Like if you and I were going to meet for the first time and we didn't have any specific plans of where to eat or drink, etc, I would say, "Meet me in front of The Bookstore."

Where would you prefer to meet and greet before we were off to do something else? Qdboa? Cefalo's? Monty's? Maybe the new Kinko's? The Bookstore just seems to make sense. The walking club meets in front of the Guess store, right across the street from The Bookstore. "Guess" that works for them. Pun intended.

I would try to find a location that would provide easy parking for both of us - if you are driving and I'm driving, we are already into paying at least $5-6 each in some lot because there is rarely any on-street metered parking available. And if you run a few minutes late getting to your car, you are already ticketed. No one wants to wheel into a pkg garage if it is a short meeting or a quick lunch. We need to come up with some sort of free metered parking for residents for at least 20-30 min. to run errands in the Grove.

When my kids meet up with friends, they always meet at the fountain at Cocowalk.

The bookstore is definitely the center for me. Sometimes, I purposely meet people, especially those not from here, a few minutes late. Often, in that time they've found a book they're about to purchase or struck up a conversation with someone interesting.

Who cares? You meet people at different places for different purposes. For coffee and just sitting down, it's usually Greenstreets for me

Greenstreet is definitely the place where people meet.

If we could get those taxi stands in front of Mayfair Hotel moved to another location it would free up more metered parking. Other cabs come by and sometimes there are 5 cabs clogging the street as well as two delivery trucks. Let's come up with a better location for those cabs. Why do they have to be together - send them off to other hotels or put them around the corner on Fla.

I completely agree with trying to find different parking spaces for the cabs! And they are VERY rude if you ask them to move. . .

It is almost like saying: "Where is the center of the universe?" of course the answer is: it is where I am standing.

No Grape, nobody compared it to Books and Books. You were fantasizing about "everyone wanting to open up a bookstore/coffe shop" and I responded that not everyone has that ambition. I said that I for one would not compete with other existing stores like Books and Books. Look back at your own blog and check that out.

There is no comparison, you're right. As far as I'm concerned your constant plugs of the place are making me find the place less and less desirable. Fancy that!

What we need are more gutsy people to follow their dreams and open up a store or retaurant in the Grove style - the owners of the Book Store in the Grove have done a phenomal job - they have been open 6mos. and have done an incredible job. For all you naysayers, put your money where your mouth is. That is what these Grove residents have done. Let's continue to support them and not worry where the center of the Grove is.

As far as a I'm concerned the restaurants and shops are not really supported by "Grove Residents" that's the whole problem! Half of you bitch about 99.9% of everything and the other half compare everything to whatever can be compared too! In fact who the hell can say what Grove style is? Is their a Coral Gables style or a Pinecrest style, really its very ridiculous are their Grove style laws and regulations one should abide by!! ha ha ha what a bunch of garbage!

coffee is not that great, everything looks stale in that freaking refrigerator, and of course help behind the counter is just like grove help RETARDED and slow.

The center of the Grove is where McFarlane, Grand and Main intersects. So to make it easy, I'd say let's meet at the black info booth right near there. Added bonus: while waiting you could learn some cool facts about the Grove, plus get directions, all while being protected by booth security.

Let's all meet there bloggers!!!

I think the center of the grove and the best place to meet is as far as possible from the grape himself. Therefore I just stay away from the bookstore and the Windisch-Hunt Gallery since these seem to be the only two places he goes.
