Real fine art in our midst

Would you like the opportunity to meet someone who shared studio space with Picasso in Paris in 1951? If so, watch the Windisch-Hunt Fine art Gallery this fall.

Maximiliano Gonzales de Olazabal, shown here with AnnaMaria, also painted with Wilfredo Lamb. They did one joint painting which will be on exhibition but not for sale.

AnnaMaria is looking to honor working artists who have become National Treasures in their own right. This is a designation given to artists in Japan who have given their best and continue to create in their field of endeavor.

That's Wilfredo Lam- no "b," a fantastic Cuban-Chinese painter whose remarkable canvases are actually available for us to see in a major retrospective of his work now at the MAM- proving, as the GMCVB's new ad campaign touts, that Miami is indeed a place of high culture-- unless of course, you spell Lam with a "b" and no one else calls you on it!

Just teasing - glad the blog is featuring art-- let's have more! Congratulations and kudos to Anna Maria for bringing to light our National Treasures- for art truly is, and artists truly are.

all the best Lili

I just googled Wilfredo Lamb and this is what I found.
.cubaabsolutely.com/art. spells it with a B
however if you google Lam it also comes up.
Could it be the pronunciation interpretation gave the duo spelling via transliteration.

He is a lovely gentleman his photos document his friendship with both Picasso, Lam as well as Georges Braque in Paris.

Adam is right. I cut and pasted the phrase from the actual blog as I often do, ditched the b ,and did not even look at the first name. But here is the irony -- we Cubans . To us Cubans, the pronunciation of the L in Wilfredo would be non existent, thus, the L in Wilfredo became silent, which begat Wifredro. --lili

...and may I add that it is sad Lam's name and art, and Maximiliano Gonzales de Olazabal (ok I am cutting and pasting again) who sounds fascinating, andwho provides an incredible opportunity for first hand story telling-- only gets 5 emails (3 from me) while the Cafe Tutu tango debacle get like a kazillion....

Please let us know when he is around. Lili
