Changes at Starbucks

Doug Olson of Coast to Coast with Gino Vasques at the Grove Starbucks.

There's a new kind of thing going on at Starbucks, if you were in this morning things were different. If you had your coffee there (not take-out) you had a choice of the regular cup or this great new ceramic mug.

The big shots from Starbucks are in town from Seattle this week, they are staying and meeting at the Mayfair Hotel.

Below is District Manager Sachita Subramania. He actually brought coffee across the street to AnnaMaria the other day because the coffee machine was broken when she stopped in. Rather than make her wait, he told her he would bring it over and here he is -- service with a smile. Sachita will be here throughout Starbucks' move across to CocoWalk.

Michael Hubbard (below) in for his morning java he is a consultant for Growth Capital.

Sorry but there is no effin way a local Starbucks employee would have ever walked coffee to your friend across the street.

Nor should an employee do that. I would have blown a gasket if a cashier suddenly left to walk someones drink over while the rest of us rotted in line.

Right- but it sounds like, as district manager, he wasn't a part of the line crew and has a more flexible role.

Starbucks is just the kind of quirky, unexpected, out of the box experience that works in the Grove. Go hang out there 8- 10am -- a really fun local group, great conversation, just avoid the bathroom. Anyway, soon the "new Starbucks", for better or worse, will be THE subject.

BTW -- last Friday morning Queen Latifah and her bodyguard strolled into the Grove Starbucks -- they liked it because the whole scene is "really laid back."

It's a shame they are moving across the street. I fear that their whole vibe is going to change.

Blind Mind why are you being rude to everyone here? You called AnnaMaria a liar yesterday -- the thing about the District Manager bringing her coffee, guess you thought she faked the photo with that post, now you are calling this person a liar.

I have seen Queen Latifah around the Grove, too. Is it too unbelievable that she stopped for a cup of coffee at the country's number one coffee shop?

The fact that you respond to this blog tells me that you care about Starbucks. Sachita is the District Mgr. he came over from Coral Gables.
It was late afternoon and no one really waiting.
I was anxious but did not say anything. He just felt my vibes. When he said "I'll bring it to you"
My mind just said (he thinks I'm sitting here)
I just said "you Will?" He said in a complete sentence. " I will bring it to you." Then I explained I was across the street. Blind mind has the right nom de plume

NOW WAIT ONE MINUTE HERE!

I dont know where you got the notion that I was calling Ms. Hunt a "liar" but you are WAY OUT OF LINE.

My comment was...
Sorry but there is no effin way a local Starbucks employee would have ever walked coffee to your friend across the street.

Perhaps I shouldve bolded "local" because that was my point. That if some manager or corporate guy wasnt at the Starbucks that there is no way a regular employee wouldve gone that extra mile to do someone a favor by walking a coffee across the street.

I too have seen Queen Latifah in the Grove. My observation was that I just couldnt picture her saying "Wow, this Starbucks is really laid back." and I thought it was funny, thats all.

You know, you have a very bad habit of jumping to your own conclusions and pointing fingers that are way off based (see also: accusing Marcelo Salup of being a "lobbyist"). This is a great blog and the comments stimulate conversation and I enjoy you chronicling the events of our neighborhood. Its very hard to determine sarcasm, humor, tone, etc, when reading an email or comment. There are always 2 paths to take when reading a comment. You seem to take the low road more often than high. Try taking the high road sometime, youll feel a lot better.

Maybe it's just me but I can't think of any reason why someone who truly enjoys coffee would go to Starbucks instead of the Bookstore.

I don't have it out for Starbucks but the fact is that the coffee is STILL not fresh. After years of using pre-ground coffee beans, they only recently realized they had "lost their way" and decided to move back to fresh ground.

This was music to my ears, since their many locations are exponentially more convenient for me than anywhere else. However, in case anyone has not noticed, the only thing they do differently now is grind them fresh first in the morning. They then sit in a bucket all day until ready for use. Maybe I'm a coffee snob but that is not exactly fresh as advertised.

Starbucks is dead to me.
