Gifford Lane Stroll is today

The 10th annual celebration of the Gifford Lane Art Stroll is today from noon to 5 pm

It's along one quaint, tree-lined block of Gifford Lane between Oak and Day Avenues on the 3200 block. If you click the map above, it will
open larger.

People who knew the Grove year's ago swear this is the closest thing you're ever going to see that looks and feels just exactly like the old Grove. I enjoy it because all of the Grove "characters" are in one place at one time -- it's pretty unique. I found Bernard, shown here, setting up earlier today.

When I say "characters" I mean like in a tv show or play, where every one of the cast is on stage or on screen all in one scene. That's what this is like. The people written about in this blog, the people who comment in this blog, the people who "run" the Grove will all be there on one Village block.

This is an amazing place to buy cool art and tuck it under your arm, but an even more remarkable place to chill, sip intoxicating cucumber punch, eat grilled shrimp on big skewers, have long leisurely political or philosophical conversations with perfect strangers, then dance in the street, and then dance some more.

More than sixty artists will display their art along the block. The Art Stroll has a reputation for great bargains from among some of the finest artists in the region. Neighbors on the block provide free and minimal cost libations and incredible barbecued food. It is Florida "old-style."

Once again, all of the participating artists at the Art Stroll will be giving a percentage of their sales to two Grove charities-this percentage will be added to contributions made by the public and neighbors living on the block. The two benefiting charities from the Grove are the St. Stephen's AIDS Ministry and the St. Alban's Day Care Center in the Village West, which has seen hard times lately.
