What happened to the old house?
"Each day I commute from south Grove to work using Douglas and turning onto Grand. There was an historically designated home on the north side of Grand, just past Douglas, which has obviously now been torn down. All that remains is a chain link fence and rubble. What happened to that home that was supposed to be preserved? Does anyone know?"

Not sure if it is the house you are interested in, but a house was moved recently from Grand Ave to SW 28th St., south side of the street just east of the intersection with SW 26th Ave.
Somebody moved a house in Coconut Grove and no one kneew about it? That's a happening. No one saw it going up Grand Ave. on a flatbed?
I am ashamed to say I was not out there taking pics and blogging it. :(
I thought the house that vanished was coral rock in structure. So how exactly does one move a coral house down grand avenue with no one commenting on traffic flow problems, etc.?
And the suspicious rocks scattered throughout the property could not possibly be remnants of the original house????or could they!
It is a shame that another great grove structure disappeared and no one notice until it was too late.
The house on 28 St is definitely not the one with the coral rock pillars that was on Grand Avenue. This one is all wood. Could the house on Grand have been torn down? A good contractor knows that if you work quickly on a Sunday morning, you can get away with almost anything in the City of Miami. Especially if you park two or three large trucks in front of the property in question.
It was demolished to make way for the Gibson School...
I SAW A HOUSE GOING DOWN US 1. IT WAS MOVING PRETTY FAST. IT PAST ME GOING ABOUT 80...
That was no house that passed you. It was Rosie O'Donnell on her Harley, trying desperately to find an all-night Del Taco drive-thru.
That was no house that was Rudy Guiliani running out of town chasing the next Primary Bus. Since he put all his eggs in one basket he now has to go fishing.
j/k
Leave the jokes to the professionals, peaceole.
