Wonderful night in Peacock Park

Last night I think I went back in time. I felt like I was back in the days of Wally and Beaver Cleaver and Donna Reed. That is how it felt in Peacock Park for the showing of "It's a Wonderful Life." It was so quaint and homey.

The weather was perfect -- breezy and comfortable -- and the fake snow they were blowing through the crowd really put people in the holiday mood.

There were people of all ages with their lawn chairs and blankets. They brought picnic baskets and pizza and enjoyed the hot dogs, sno cones and popcorn that were available at the park and it was such a nice setting on a nice night.

Before the movie started, singers from the Shakespeare in the Park group, dressed as the Andrews Sisters, sang a few songs. They were promoting the January "Much Ado About Nothing" event, which will also be in Peacock Park. Then promptly at 8:00 pm, the movie started. The park lights were shut off on cue and up came the colorized version of Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life."

People were quiet and well behaved and really enjoyed themselves. You could see the huge movie screen from way across McFarlane Road and you could actually hear the movie as far away as Johnny Rockets, although it was not overly loud, but just a nice background soundtrack to the shoppers in the downtown area.

I really enjoyed the whole experience and the Fresh Air Flicks is really a great idea for the area. Peacock Park is the perfect setting. Although it looks sparse in the photos here, I think there were 1000 people or more. It was a really nice neighborly crowd. I look forward to the
next event.

wow - that looks fun - Sorry to have missed it, but I'm thankful the turn out was a good one so it might be an event again.
