Somoto in the Grove
Now I see I can get my favorite soup right here at Somoto, the Japanese, Thai and sushi bar restaurant at 3190 Commodore Plaza.
They have everything from traditional Pad Thai to Curry, Teriyaki, Tempura and so on.
They have daily lunch specials and are also open for dinner. Their website is here: www.somotococonugrove.com .
I'm excited about all the new places opening in the Grove. Let's support them.

I agree with supporting the new places. I stopped by the bookstore today to get a latte and bagel and it was so nice to see all the local grovites packed in the cafe. I also love that they have tables out on the sidewalk; thats a perfect place to sit and read or just people watch.
Hasn't Somoto been there or are there new owners?
Now what the Grove needs is a Quality Clean Chinese Restaurant/take-out. Red Lantern was a Bad example glad they finally closed. With all the Hotels and Hospitals Hello out there it will be a gold mine with free delivery.
I believe Somoto has been in the Grove for ages... They are now doing more to reel in customers (i think the thai offerings are new) now that Akashi is coming to the Grove (and that is great sushi). I didnt like the sushi at Somoto when I went there, so I never went back. The sushi joint that was once a cheese market is actually really good. Very fresh fish there.
God yes to the chinese. I have never found decent chinese in miami. At this point i would even support a chain like p.f. changs just to get some dang chinese food.
IT WOULD BE FABULOUS TO HAVE A GREAT CHINESE RESTAURANT IN THE GROVE. RED LANTERN WAS GREAT ABOUT 8 OR 10 YEARS AGO. I EVEN SAW GENE HACKMAN THERE A COUPLE OF TIMES.
WE OFTEN CALLED IN THE OREDER AND THEN THEY WOULD RUN OUT WITH THE CREDIT CARD MACHINE WHEN WE PULLED UP IN THE CAR.
THEN THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD STARTED TO CHANGE, AND WE NOTICED THE PERSONABLE YOUNG OWNER, DANIEL, WAS NOT AROUND. THEY KEPT SAYING HE WAS VISITING CHINA, BUT THE TRUTH FINALLY CAME OUT THAT HE SOLD IT, AND IT WAS NEVER THE SAME. HOPEFULLY, A GOOD CHINESE RESTAURANT WILL COME SOON.
Akashi has been "Coming Soon" for at least six months. My guess is that it ain't happening.
slow lane - restaurants have to run the gauntlet of inspections, permits, etc. It doesnt happen overnight. Itll be worth the wait, trust me.
Anon who commented after me - you can find killer chinese in Miami at Tropical Chinese which is on Bird Road around 89th(?) street. Their menu is a tad pricey, but its incredibly good. Also, for a cheap eat and a good time, hit up their Dim Sum that runs from 11am-230pm. You can be in and out of there in about 30-45 minutes with a full belly for a low price.
chef tien is a great delivery place (on Le Jeune), too - and for those of us in South Grove, it's closer than downtown CG.
actually ended up at Tropical tonite after going to Matsuri but forgetting its closed on Mondays... Food was incredibly good. The squal "song" was incredible and the entrees were great as well. Chef Tien used to be at Tropical Chinese. Ive yet to try that place but Ive heard mixed reviews.
Chef Tien is terrible. Tried it three times, all were bad. Canton in the Gables is close and very good, and they now have integrated a Sushi Maki within their restaurant so you can order from either place or both, and it all goes on one bill.
