Tree trimmers?

I've been thinking of starting a new feature here about trades and workers in the Grove.

For instance, our condo is looking for a new tree trimmer, we need our tall palm trees trimmed and the coconuts removed and we need a dead tree trunk removed. So I am going to ask here for some recommendations.

Who do you use for this sort of project? Who do you recommend?

Please only respond with tree trimmers, I'll post again asking for your favorite plumbers or electricians, etc. But this pertains to tree trimmers only.

This is an excellent question; Miami-Dade does not require any certifications to be a tree trimmer in the county. That means that not all of them really know what they are doing.
You'll want someone who has training; ideally they should belong to one or more of the following:
- The Tree Care Industry Association, [formerly the National Arborist Association]
- The American Society of Consulting Arborists
- The International Society of Arboriculture

In Broward and Palm Beach counties, professional tree trimmers MUST belong to one of these agencies; our Glorius Banana Council just decrees you own a saw.

There's more to trimming trees than just owning a saw.

Delbert's Lawn Service did an excellent job! In addition they do stump grinding. I'm almost certain that he is a member of the Arborist association. The number is 786-290-9306

I've used Big Pine...they are not from Big Pine Key and they are EXTREMELY expensive. I personally will not use them again.

Another thing regarding tree trimmers is you must be on hand when they do the job. Most are like bulls in a china shop, your yard will get destroyed, plantings and yard lights will be flattened and I have yet to find one tree man who owns up to this type of destruction.

The standard refrain is we can't help it. There are tree trimmers who will rope down limbs and fronds, but you gotta watch them.

Use "A Little Tree Service" by Pierre Sands. He is honest, he shows up when he says he will and he give free estimates. He is not the most expensive, but he is not the cheapest - however, he in my opinion is the best I have yet to work with. Ask around and I think you will also here more positives about his work and group. Not to mention he lives in the grove.

And I do not work for him.

Ditto on Pierre Sand an A Little Tree Service. I've used them for large tree removal on one property and tree trimming/bougainvillea taming on another. On time, honest, very nice to work with. Highly recommended - and how nice to support Grove businesses.

Try Bistrong's Tree Service. 305-632-5837.

Bryan is from a local homegrown family based in the Redland and South Dade. (His brother is the landscape architect, Ben of Jungle B's.) Bistrong has been in the tree care and nursery business for over 20 years, since he was 18 years old. His bread and butter are annual repeat clients in Coral Gables, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay and the Grove that swear by his artistry in trimming. Many of the old trees he's trimmed are sculpturally beautiful as they have matured in his care over the years. Gables and Grove old-timers will only trust his expertise on their trees. That says something. He's honest and fairly priced and will also haul the rubble, often salvaging the wood from trimmings for his wood sculptures or milling.

Scotty's Landing owner uses him for his home in Cocoplum, as well as at the Landing. Eighty three year old painter Netty Belle Robinson of Pinecrest has known and used him since he began in his teens. Many of Ye Little Wood's residents are in the care of Bistrong. He also trims the trees at Monty's, Bayside, and the dozens of palms at Coconut Palm Inn in Tavernier, as well as condos on Miami Beach.

You may have already run into him. He plays congas with “Live Bait” some Friday’s at Scotty’s. Tell him T sent you:)

That's my two cents.

Please consider leaving that dead palm up for the woodpeckers!!
You may not be thrilled with it now, but when it is populated with a family of woodpeckers you may change your mind.

thanx
