There is a whole big county out there

We do bitch a lot about the Grove and aside from having to drive outside the Grove for most things, we are lucky enough to have most things within driving distance. People really can't be complaining that things are not within a two minute walk, that isn't to be taken seriously is it? We have a whole big county full of lots of things to partake of, to not ever leave the Grove is not really a good way to live, I don't think.

How spoiled can people be? The Grove is centrally located and close to everything. I grew up in Cutler Ridge, back then you had to drive miles to get to anything and no one complained. Even if you live in many neighborhoods now like off of Old Cutler Road in Pinecrest or Palmetto Bay, you have to drive far to get things. From the Grove many things are a hop, skip and a jump.

One problem is that there are a lot of empty storefronts and basically all I am saying here is that since obviously tourists aren't frequenting the shops, perhaps catering to locals would be better since the locals are already here. I am not saying to move every grocery store and every restaurant and business there is to the Grove so that we don't have to leave the Grove. I am merely saying that bringing businesses in that locals would use may be a solution to the current load of empty storefronts.

One thing that people don't realize is that the Grove is really a neighborhood and not a city. There isn't much in the Grove itself, but a short drive away there is everything. I can't see how people can possibly mind going to Publix on 27th Ave. or even the one off of Brickell.

I can understand if people bitch about the Grove if they don't have a car, but this is Miami and most people do have cars and if you don't have a car, perhaps South Beach is the place for you or some neighborhood that has more to offer pedestrians.

The reason I like the Grove so much is because it reminds me of the small town I grew up in. The homes are all nestled amongst the trees, streets are relatively quiet, and if you want action you can walk to Cocowalk. The grapevine factor definitely exists as it seems like the Grove is the type of community where someone breaks a leg and teh whole community knows about it the next day. The Grove is also in a great location for traveling to other areas. Youre 10-15 minutes from South Miami and the MIA airport, 5 minutes from Coral Gables, 5 minutes from Downtown, and 15 minutes from South Beach. Thats tough to beat. There are also some great restaurants and shops too.

All in all, I couldnt be happier with my living situation in the Grove. OK, maybe a little happier, but not much. And I guess I kinda like how everyone constantly bitches about it. At least we can feel safe that at least 1 community in Miami is not going to let City Government bully them around w/o a fight.
