Rua is suing

Developer Carlos Rua is suing the City and the County over the city's getting involved in the Coconut Grove Metrorail project on US1 and 27th Ave. Apparently this is a county issue and not a city issue.

So as this drags on and on, we could have had the Latin American Restaurant (shown being torn down above) still there all this time. Why do developers destroy what is there years before when they can be collecting rents up the last minute and on top of that, there wouldn't be an ugly empty lot in the location.

It turns out the City stepped in to do something good for the Grove for a change, by limiting the size of the development and Rua is upset. But again, Rua has constantly changed his plans -- mostly in Rua's favor. So Rua is now suing because he is a greedy developer and won't deal with the suggestions of the Grove citizens who have to live with the monstrosity once it is built.

Rua and clan don't care about the neighborhood. Why would they keep a restaurant that caters to so many when the taxes are cheaper for vacant land?

Carlos Rua never had the net worth to build his mega project on SW 27th. He is probably just trying to flip the site. Too bad the County did not award the contract to someone better 8 years ago. Someone real might have finished the project by now.

You have the WRONG SITE.....
the Metrorail Station Parking Lot not the old Latin American restaurant.
(Yes, where the cars park--now. That will a mix use transit development--providing live work shop together with transportation options)

This is just Rua's way of trying to force the city in to agreeing with what he wants. Irregardless of what the residents of the surrounding communities have expressed over and over again to commissioners, that they don't want this project which is totally out of scale with the neighborhood. Also because residents found out that this development will also change the surrounding zoning to commercial once it is built further impacting the surrounding communities. Where does it stop, guy's like Rua don't care, to him the residents, many who are seniors and retired are just in the way.

The question remains whether our politicians will buckle now and use the excuse of the law suit to cave in or later. We already know what developer rubber stamp Joe Sanchez will do.

Of course you can bet our "Green" Mayor (or did we miss a letter or two and it should be "greedy") will find a way to accommodate the Rua Clan with his friends at the county.

These guys have turned our city into a corrupt joke, the only thing that has slowed them down is the real estate down turn otherwise they would still be destroying communities under the guise of urban development and the recent "greening" of Miami idea to be able to push more concrete with Miami 21. They use public transportation as the excuse to build these totally out of scale projects in community metrorail stations, where there are no guarantees people will use it unless they work downtown.

Miami has become one of the worst examples of government corruption in the country. In Miami things don't get done because people need them but instead because developers want them built to make a buck irregardless of the consequences to our environment, way of life, or well being of long time residents would have struggled to pay for their homes to retire. We need to clean house soon or we will be pushed out of our own homes by these greedy clowns.
