Getting ready for July 4th

The old-fashioned Barnacle Fourth of July is on again this year (3485 Main Highway). There will be all sorts of family-style fun from kite making to knot tying and lots of lawn games and music. There is always lots to eat: hot dogs, watermelon and soda, or bring your own lunch.

The house is decorated in traditional 4th of July bunting as it was back in the day of the Commodore. The day goes from 9 am to 4 pm, when the park closes, but hop on over to Peacock Park afterwards for the nighttime fun. Plans are in the works for a celebration with music, food and drinks and lots of activities ending with fireworks.

Peacock Park is free, the Barnacle fourth is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for kids 5 to 12. More info: 305-442-6866 or
