Mercy hospital meeting

Mercy Hospital wants to sell-out the Grove to the highest bidder, in this case The Related Group. Let's pray the City Commissioners come to their right minds and tell Mercy to screw off.

The meeting is Thursday, April 26 at City Hall (3500 Pan American Drive), the circus starts at 10 am. Let's keep track of which City Commissioners side with the Grove. Let's hope they all side with quality of life. If they
don't let's vote them all out of office and maybe find the money trail to get them out sooner.

Trust me, there is a money trail. We can easily humiliate them out of office and have them put in jail if they took money to side with Related. I am not saying this is the case, but there is no other rational reason for fucking up the Grove other than the almighty buck. Let them explain to their families and friends why they were humiliated out of office and left a legacy that is a joke. I can name many humiliated ghosts of the past --they are fools now in the eyes of the public. Let's add these politicians to the scrap heap if they side with Related and Mercy on this issue.

Also, please contact the following people and request them to please respect our zoning codes and the "Grovener Rule" that our community insisted on and that they helped pass and are responsible to honor and protect for the good of us all.

Mercy Please No More Unnecessary Condos! Stop The Mercy Hospital/Related Group Fiasco!

Coconut Grove Activist, founder of The King Mango Strut and Miami Herald columnist Glenn Terry was absolutely correct when he wrote in his Sunday In My Opinion column, that “Coconut Grove needs another high-rise like Johnny Winton needs another drink.” It was a most sobering observation!

What Mercy Hospital needs to do is to build a quality Assisted Living Facility and not sell off a portion of its G/I zoned property to the Related Group for them to add more luxury condos to the glut that already exists.

Selling this property to a condo developer will only be a short term fix for Mercy’s financial crisis.

What our community really requires and what will be of greatest benefit in the long run for Mercy Hospital is a very high quality Assisted Living Facility.

The demand for a good A.L.F. is very strong and getting stronger with each year that the Baby Booms continue to age.

The Mercy property is properly zoned for an A.L.F..

An A.L.F. will be a much needed and a most profitable revenue stream for Mercy Hospital.

There is no justification to rezone Mercy property from G/I to R-4 or even R-3 just to accommodate the building of more unnecessary luxury condos and provide Mercy with a temporary solution to their many years of mismanagement that have resulted in this financial crisis.

The developer originally request three towers to be built as high as 410 ft. But I am sure just like an oriental rug merchant he asked for a lot and is willing to settle for half, which is what he wanted in the first place. There is no reason to compromise on reducing the height and density of the three luxury condos that the Related Group insists on planting on this property that is zoned for medical and health care purposes.

The final City of Miami Commission meeting takes place April 26th, to decide the future of the Mercy Hospital property, the Pandora’s Box that may result with all other G/I zoned properties and the future of our community.

Please contact your City of Miami Mayor, Commissioner and Manager and request them to please respect our zoning codes and the Grovener Rule that our community insisted on and that they helped pass and are responsible to honor and protect for the good of us all.

Well the vote is in and a new day dawns, but I did 'email' the Commissioners and asked them for their comments. See the question below. The only comment I received was from Commissioner Gonzalez and that was on the day of the vote. I am sure you all heard it. In his comments not only did he insult Indians he invoked Shakespeare's To "protest too much" is to insist so strongly about something not being true that people begin to suspect maybe it is true. Example: "You do like that girl, don't you?" Answer: "No! I don't! Not at all! Why do you think so?" Reply: "You protest too much." "Protest too much" comes from Hamlet by William Shakespeare; the Queen speaking: "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." (Note: people do not usually use the word "methinks" when they are speaking English today.) To "protest too much" is to insist so passionately about something not being true that people suspect the opposite of what you are saying. Example: "Do you think he is telling the truth?" Answer: "I think he protests too much."

Commissioners

The enclosed letter to the Coconut Grove Grapevine blog implies that some members of the City of Miami Commissioners may have sold their vote in reference to an affirmative vote on the upcoming zoning change for Mercy Hospital. Do you have any comments?

Thank you,
