Is there hope for the Playhouse?

There is an article in today's Herald by Daniel Chang about the Coconut Grove Playhouse. It really doesn't say much, but it makes it seem like there is some hope for the playhouse's resurrection. My first suggestion is to get rid of that Shelly Spivack, the board chair, she sounds like a total dolt.

I still can't understand how anyone who was involved in the mess is still allowed to be on the board. The city or county should take over and wipe out the idiots running the place and replace them all.

Yeah, Spivack's an idiot.
The article had one factual error: the "vouchers" were actually provided by the OTHER theatres. And actually, the "vouchers" were not for full value, but discounts on the tickets at the participating theatres. Only the intervention of the Arts Council prevented theatres from offering them directly to Grove subscribers.

I can't figure out how Miami-Dade County got into the picture. This looks like a hostile takeover of a City of Miami asset by the people in County Government who have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they should NEVER be trusted to develop or manage a cultural facility. These are the people who built and will soon abandon the original dysfunctional Art Museum on West Flagler Street, hopelessly botched the new Performing Arts Center and are marching like lemmings into another sea of bad planning, cost overruns and environmental destruction with Museum Park.

We must not allow them to have anything to do with the poor Coconut Grove Playhouse.

This is a great opportunity for Commissioner Sarnoff to rescue his community from impending disaster.

Miami-Dade got involved because the Grove Playhouse's board has misplaced a lot of the county's money.
The Playhouse is basically about to collapse into a pile of rubble: the steel in the concrete has rusted away, and the roof leaks like a sieve. And yet, they've recieved a lot of cash so they can FIX those things. Where's the money?
No, this board shouldn't be given a single dime. They should be digging into their pockets and repaying every cent they've already recieved, and someone should be investigating the lot of them.

The poster about is totally correct. The Playouse Board (Shelly the Hut and the rest of the Village Idiots) have got to be given the boot. But to be replaced by the COUNTY? That would be worse!!! The City has got to get in the game and protect their/our Playhouse!

Bothers me to see places with such incredible potential here in South Florida left to deteriorate.
