I'm sick over this decision

It's disappointing that selfish, stupid people like Michelle Spence-Jones are actually running this city. There is something radically wrong when only five people, most incompetent, are in charge of a large city like Miami.

Coconut Grove really needs to get away from the City of Miami and become its own city. We really cannot have stupid, selfish people telling us what needs to happen in our own village. It's sickening.

I am hoping, willing and praying that the 300 Grove Bay project never happens. I am hoping it is stalled in the courts for years and that the price of concrete and steel and the current real estate market make it a foolish decision to build, although I suspect The Related Group would build it just for spite.

I curse the Natoma and Bay Heights neighborhoods who took millions in bribes. I see nothing but bad for this project, it has bad karma, feelings and omens written all over it.

Every Grovite is wearing a capital "L" on the forehead today as we are all LOSERS because of our perpetually crooked city. Self-governance once again appears to be the only viable answer to stopping the insanity once and for all.

I'm all for secession from the City of Miami, but the odds are pretty well stacked up against that ever happening. BUT, there may be another avenue to consider that would give the Grove and other Miami neighborhoods a little more autonomy and self-governance while continuing to be a part of the City of Miami.... COMMUNITY COUNCILS.

These already exist in many parts of the country, inlcuding right here in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, and essentially allow neighborhoods to make decisions re: their own zoning, and act as an advisory board on a range of other issues. The County's Community Councils can only be overriden by a super-majority vote of the commission. Thus, using Mercy as an example, a theoretical Coconut Grove Community Council could have voted down the zoning change, and it would have taken 4 out of 5 Commissioners to override that decision (actual vote was 4-3, so the denial would stand).

There is no way in hell the City Commissioners would ever initiate this concept themselves, so it would most likely need to come from the County or State as a general law applying to all large cities (over 50,000 residents?). Both of those entities have the authority and power to do it, all that is needed is the political will. And I'll tell you this... if no one steps up soon to take this on, I know someone who is prepared to run for office in the next election under this platform. Stay tuned...

It is incredible three non-Grove non-Dist 2 poorly educated people can decide the fate of the Grove.

Cursed is he who is taking a bribe to smite a person.

Karmic law.
