I know the perfect spot

According to a story in The Herald, Kohl's the department store, is looking for locations in South Florida. I know of a great one: It's next to Milam's on a nice busy intersection, with plenty of customers just anxious to shop there.

What a great looking store. Maybe Home Depot will sell their lease to them when the lawsuit is won. Let's all remember not to be seen shopping in Home Depot.

Someone should email Kohl's Locator people and suggest 2999 SW 32 Ave. in Coconut Grove.

Khols would be great. They offer a nice selection of clothing without the high prices. it would serve the needs of the grove across the financial board.

For clothing without the high prices go to Target or KMart. The store is not better than KMart which was in the proposed site to begin with and certainly not as good as Target. Surely we can do better than that in the Grove. There has to be a store that can offer affordable clothing (among other things) with style and good service. In my experience (had one nearby in NY)Kohl's is not necessarily it!

Elena, the point is that anything is better than Home Depot. Even Kohl's. And I think that is a perfect fit for the area. That spot has always had that type of store from Zayers to Mervyns. There is nothing like that in the area now.

But then where will I buy my hardware, gardening & plumbing material close by my home at competitive prices?

I actually, think Home Depot is so upset at the Grove that they are planning to sell the real estate to worldwide evil retailer #1, Wal*Mart!

Now wouldn't that be fun to watch the community uproar? The only other element that would create greater "outrage" is if Haliburton relocated its corporate offices to the Grove.

Unfortunately, Haliburton has already decided to relocate to Dubai which of course tried to buy our ports in the US and failed because of the same meaningless "citizen & politician indignation" that the Gove seems to generate everytime a change in the community is proposed.

PS Don't tell anyone, but P&O Ports, North America, which owns part of the Miami port is the U.S. subsidiary of London-based Peninsular & Oriental, which Dubai Ports World owns.

Ill tell you what i awlays have thought would be perfect for that spot. R.E.I. I mean one of the nations largest co-ops. They have THE BEST customer service, and offer great workers benifits. I worked at one in colorado and they even offered to cover my tuition to any classes that related to the outdoor retail market. They spent three weeks training me before i even sold a sock (you will not find that in retail people). and they could open their first store in FL, in the PERFECT Market. With all the cycling gear, kyaking stuff, and i even think in the winter ski stuff would work (i had to drive way the hell down south to get some snowboard gloves for a trip and they had like a two week wait on snowboard tunups).

The prior posting about P&O Ports North America did not mention that the operation has now been bought from Dubai Ports World by American International Group (AIG). Whatever ill-informed hyperventilating the initial furor might have provoked is now officially without merit.

Poster appove is mistaken. Home Depot does not own the Grove site so they cannot sell it. They are a tenant. That site is owned by, I believe, a NY State based property company, but do not hold me to that.

Anything would be better than a Home Depot on that site. And that site is far too small for WalMart to even consider.

Perhaps Home Depot would consider cleaning up its disgusting code violating neighborhood baiting SW 8th Street store?

The home depot web site shows it opens next month. I guess the grove has lost that battle.

Home Depot has leased the site. Can you sub-lease? We need a store that carries clothing, toys, household goods, etc. When you have house guests, you have to travel to Dadeland to buy a bed pillow or linens. You're right, however, Home Depot is the worst case scenario.

You might give Shell lumber a try.

Keep shopping at Shell Lumber Co; they support us - let's support them. And then there is Poe's on US 1 and LeJeune. We don't need Home Depot. If we band together and none of us set foot in Home Depot, let's see how long they last in that cramped space.

Home Depot would be fine if the city of Miami would do their job and enforce the codes, make them clean up after themselves and play by the rules. But, the city is inept, corrupt and run by thieves who were born in Latin American countries. They don't even play by the rules of this country.

True. We have laws and codes. Why don't the foreign born code enforcement people issue tickets and violations and just make sure the codes are enorced? Home Depot on SW 8th gets away with ruining the neighborhood. What makes anyone think they will care if they open on US 1?
