Grove Business Improvement District

The Coconut Grove Business Improvement District could be a reality within a year. This is a system where where businesses tax or assess themselves to fund area improvements including marketing. Executive Director Dave Collins is excited about the idea and feels it will help improve many things including making the Grove cleaner and safer.

Good stuff! God knows we can't rely on the City of Miami to get anything done in either a timely or competent fashion. Hopefully these guys will do some good!

Jeez,
You would think that with the amount of Taxes we ALREADY pay things would be cleaner and safer by now.

I think this will be great if implemented. I have said before that the Grove really needs a marketing group to help these businesses who obviously dont have a clue how to market themselves. Hopefully now the revolving door of businesses in the Grove will slow to a stop...

You mean they don't have a BID already? That's retailing 101. But, better late than never. Miami seems so out of touch with the rest of the US when it comes to the basics. I'll say one more thing: Who wants to walk from the Sonesta to Cocowalk when you have to encounter those grubby homeless who sit on the planter outside Starbucks. Why don't the cops do anything about them. Have we not learned anything from Rudy Guliani about how to clean up cities and improve our quality of life? It is embarrasing to bring guests into the Grove! Day or night. Are you listening Mr. Sarnoff?

Coconut Grove deserves a BID; we deserve a clean Village, a good mix of stores, a place we can be proud of without broken pavers, broken lights, broken planters, and empty stores. Our restaurants and businesses are suffering - blink your eye and another business is closed. Let's get convenient parking for visitors and residents at reasonable rates, get the trolleys in the Grove - let's compete with Merrick Park, Miracle Mile, and South Miami.
