Grove Gate Work being done

Harry Emilio Gottlieb sent me these pictures of the work going on at the Grove Gate Shopping Center. You can't miss it when you pass the area or even try to go to Milam's or Walgreens.

Apparently they are working on the fire system, laying underground pipes. I'm not quite sure why the Home Depot feels the need to work before anything has been finalized. Maybe it's just to be spiteful, that's Home Depot's method of operation.

I hope they don't know something that we don't. I don't trust many City of Miami officials these days. Between this and the Mercy project and other things, they don't seem to favor quality of life. Who knows what's up their sleeves. Money probably.

BOYCOTT ALL HOME DEPOTS. SHOP SHELL LUMBER. They are helpful and never spiteful.

Work on the sprinkler system is probably the result of the mandatory yearly inspection. If any part of the system is compromised, it must be repaired under county and city law. After all, if the empty store goes up in flame, so do the others.

I so agree. Since all of this has happened I go out of my way not to shop at Home Depot and I will continue this practice. Shopping at Shell Lumber is always a great experience. I thought Home Depot was not allowed to contine construction on that site. Who knows how many city officials have already taken Home Depot money...it wouldn't be the first time there was corruption in Miami politics.

Between the looming invasion of this Home Depot, and the matter-of-time-before-they-chop-down-the-100-year-old-oaks-to-build-another-5-story-condo-eyesore (this time on Grand Ave where Stan's farmers market sits each Saturday) I'm seriously considering moving. Leaving not just the area, but the sinking ship of the US...No, not only because of Home Depot and the graveyard of Oaks...but these are the quality of life issues that essentially broke the camel's back.

So next, we have Jorge Perez and the impending Mercy Hospital parking lot turning condo. Has Jorge or the commissioners that voted in blind favor of this new development considered the added traffic and congestion impact these residences will have upon South Bayshore during rush hour? It's wack. They're wack, and hence the ticking time bomb thinking here is completely wack! We're at the Mercy of greed. Our quality of life has diminished so drastically over the last decade, and we still continue to behave like lemmings.

This encroachment is never-ending, and the fights we neighbors engage in also seem to be continuous. It would be nice if we made some headway, but lets face it, we're up against human corruption, it's rampant, and our issues are merely the micro in the giant macrocosm that is our crumbling immoral society. (Think Roman Empire)
Methinks it's time to jump ship. Seems this place is turning in on itself. We good, smart people be damned.

...And all because of Home Depot:)

Don't jump ship; we need people that care and people that will speak out - we can't fight these fights alone.
We must stay united and come out and speak up when these issues are brought before the Commission.

While I am against having bigbox retail in the neighborhood, your characterization of HomeDepot's working on the sprinkler system as being "spiteful" is pretty weak. They are not putting in a sprinkler system to make you mad, they are putting in the sprinkler system so they can open a store when they get the permit. This might be considered an example of avarice, but not spite.
