Village West?

Now they want to call the West Grove the "Village West." Can't anything just be what it is? Does every freaking neighborhood have to change names? The final straw to me was when Cutler Ridge became Cutler Bay. I grew up and went to school in Cutler Ridge, now it doesn't exist.

"Village West" sounds like some TV cowboy show. Isn't that where the tourist was recently gunned down by a modern day bandit? Maybe the name is totally fitting.

You are such a retrograde.

So what if they want a new name?

Someone told me that when he was growing up here, people in the West Grove use to call the business core of the Grove the "Village", and that that may be where "Village West" came from. The problem is, it is part of the Grove, and there is no "Grove" in the name. I believe that it is simply a marketing ploy to sell out that part of the Grove and delete the color that keeps the market down. The funny thing is, it is a person of color that keeps insisiting that the West Grove gets rid of the "grove" part. Black or white, it seems to be the "green" that matters most.
I am proud of the Grove's Bahamian roots and am suspect of anyone that works with the developers to eliminate that segment of the Grove.
So, Will Johnson, say it with me... "West Grove". Be proud of your roots and know that it is probably the most important part of the Grove as that is where we find our history. Quit being such a sell out.

My husband grew up in Cutler Ridge as well. Seems like the name was even more fitting when they put up Mt. Trashmore.
