Shakespeare in the Park presents 'Macbeth'

Shakespeare's Macbeth is coming to The Barnacle for this year's Shakespeare in the Park, which is celebrating its 15th year.

Seth Trucks plays Macbeth. Macbeth is Shakespeare's shortest play, written between 1605-1606. The first recorded production of the play was at the Globe Theater in London, in 1611, but most scholars feel that it was presented earlier to James I, the new King of England, who hailed from Scotland; as the play celebrates both King James' rule which brought together England and Scotland, and memorialized James' ancestor, Banquo.

Macbeth lived from 1005 to 1057.

In the play, the brave Scottish general Macbeth receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia. Forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion, he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of madness and death.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, January 17 through 19, the play will be performed out back on The Barnacle's big lawn.
