Grove artist featured at Calle Ocho gallery

Trina Collins painting to live music

Our friend, Coconut Grove artist Trina Collins will be the featured artist for the month of July in Little Havana’s respected “Futurama 1637 Gallery” on Calle Ocho. Fifteen of Trina's paintings will be shown July 5 through July 28. They consist mostly of female torsos and faces as well as some large colorful nudes. All are available for sale.

“I’m honored to have been selected to show my work there,” said Trina, “Futurama has established itself as the center of the Calle Ocho art gallery district. There are important things happening there.”

The Opening Reception is Friday, July 14 and is open to all. The event is at the gallery from 7 to 10 pm On July 28, there will be a Closing Reception in the gallery from 7 to 10 pm as part of the celebrated Viernes Culturales, the monthly arts and culture festival on the last Friday of every month which takes place up and down Calle Ocho.

Trina is known to people in the Grove as one of the founders of the Gifford Lane Art Stroll and has served as the Director of the event for the past 19 years. “Usually, I only put work out for sale at the Stroll,” she said. Trina and husband Dave Collins open their house to thousands of people each year at the event. This year, however, she sold some works nationally and abroad, she says. “The highlight of my year was at this year’s Stroll when Bill Fuller - the man who founded Futurama- saw my work and on the spot invited me to show on Calle Ocho for a month in July. ometimes life just works. I am amazed.  Come on over and check out Little Havana. It definitely has got a great vibe!”

Futurama is located at 1637 SW 8th Street, a quick skip down 17th Avenue from Coconut Grove. The gallery is open from 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday.
