Coconut Grove has also been going through a change with all the recent arrivals and perhaps its name will soon be changed to reflect its new identity for more distinguished branding.
Ideas for renaming Coconut Grove:
Little Brickell
South Brickell
Condo Grove
Concrete Grove
Dog Heaven
Baby Stroller
Pretentious and Pricy
Two Starbucks and Counting
Sent in by a friend
Coconut Grove

Judging by this letter, might I suggest Coconut Gripe, or possibly Coconut Grump?

ReplyDeleteCondo Grove is good.
ReplyDeleteI live in the upper eastside of Miami and the Little Haiti thing was ridiculous. It was spearheaded mainly by Haitian-Americans that have long ditched the area for the suburbs (an ever increasing trend). They also went wild and tried to claim a gigantic area that's bigger than Little Haiti ever was! Anyway, it seems that for now at least those renamers lost.
James, you're right on the mark!
ReplyDeleteLemon City, Little River and Edison are three Miami neighborhoods with history. Bahamians and African-Americans were early pioneers. In the late 1970's and 1980's they took in Haitians arriving by rafts and housed them in their churches and in their homes. Then even the Haitians grew disgusted with the urban core and they moved to the suburbs. Renaming 3-4 neighborhoods after these ingrates was all about branding. Slick loud Haitians easily corrupted African-American Commissioner Keon Hardemon who promoted their sleazy scheme. Historians and Bahamians were insulted.
