Biscayne National Park Centennial poster unveiling

Grovite Barry Fellman, a photographer, will be signing copies of his art which is featured on the Centennial poster (shown here) for Biscayne National Park, Friday, January 6, during Gables Gallery Night at the Coral Gables Museum from 6 to 8 pm. Center for Visual Communication (CVC) is the sponsor of the poster which commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service.

The limited edition poster features a beautiful image of the pristine mangrove coastline and the waters of Biscayne Bay that define our nation’s largest marine park.

Friday's closing reception for the Museum’s National Park exhibition “This Land Is Your Land: A Second Century for America’s National Parks," will feature a live performance by folk musician Grant Livingston and Park Ranger Gary Bremen of “Songs and Stories of our National Parks."

Biscayne National Park, right outside our door, is home to Biscayne Bay’s shallow waters, underwater coral reefs, the first islands of the Florida Keys and the coastal mangrove swamp of the poster image. These four ecosystems provide a protected environment from the ocean that is vitally important to South Florida’s tourism, recreational and commercial interests. About 70 percent of the fishes and marine life important to these industries are spawned and nurtured in the area’s shallow water and mangrove habitats. The poster artist Barry Fellman has been exploring South Florida’s coastal habitats with his old style view camera for over 20 years. He will exhibit large format prints of the poster image and  images from his “Mangrove Coast” project at Biscayne National Park’s [Dante Fascell] Visitor Center this summer.

Thanks to CVC’s sponsorship, 100% of the proceeds from poster sales will go directly to Biscayne National Park to support park programs.
