Los Angles has received so many complaints from neighborhood groups about the big white box houses, that are out of scale for the neighborhoods that they may do something about it. Measures may be taken to roll back the "mansionization" in single-family neighborhoods.
Councilman Paul Koretz says he has received more complaints about the over-sized houses than any other issue in his district.
Koretz said constituents have bombarded his office with complaints about “very boxy, ugly homes” that loom over their neighbors. The homes are being built by developers who “just want to put in as many bedrooms in as possible so they can make a huge profit,” he said.
Story here in LA Times.
On a side note, I've noticed that one of the Coconut Grove developers has taken to making the houses bigger and uglier but they are being painted gray now. Maybe the color distorts the appearance.
