The dog park

Spent some time at the dog park at Blanche Park last weekend. Went with a friend and her dog.

Every time I go there I enjoy the atmosphere, the dogs are all well behaved although they do jump around and some start to fight a little, but they are good with people.

This is Augustus, my friend's dog.
There was one dog who didn't know us, but he kept hopping up on the bench and sitting with us.
Saw some people I know, as so many Grovites are there with their dogs. Hate the fake grass though, I still don't understand that.

The fake grass is the direct result of zero lot line construction. Those who buy these homes are having a lot of children & own dogs. Since they have no yard their pets must dump in public and at public parks. Only about 20% of dog dung is picked up by dog owners in our dog park. The rest gets stepped on by pets and humans and tracked back into their cars and their homes. I've seen numerous dogs eating dog feces in our dog park, uck! ! ! !. These dogs kiss their owners, in the mouth and lick their human brothers & sisters on the faces, uck! ! ! ! On TV dogs & cats talk with and tell their owners what to purchase for them. Dogs 7 cats now have health & life insurance. If you think our Grove parks were tainted with pollution, wait till you see how it's designated after being a dog park! I have two dogs and two cats and they use our yard.

While I agree with you that the fake grass is not exactly visually pleasing, it's great for dogs because it's low maintenance. It won't need any water whatsoever and it will never need to be cut. There will be no patches caused by dog's pee or rough play. Dog's poop is easy to clean and to see, so you don't end up stepping on dog's poop (not exactly fun). Plus, all that fake grass needs is some rain to wash off from time to time.

AND WHAT ABOUT THE PARKING AND THE LACK OF A SIDEWALK ON THE SHIPPING SIDE OF THE STREET? I THOUGHT THIS WAS TO BE A DOG PARK FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS. I KNOW PEOPLE WHO DRIVE LONG DISTANCES TO USE THIS PARK WHO SEEM TO THINK IT IS LEGAL TO PARK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET.

Search "Abandoned vehicles parked on roadways". The law reads if a accident results from an abandoned vehicle on a roadway the owner of the abandoned vehicle is liable. Plus, call a towing company who will gladly removed the abandoned vehicle under the law. Property owners do not own the easement right of way directly in front of their home or the sidewalk, but you can't block their driveways. I guess even dogs & cats have rights and they love being in packs. The dog park is great for dogs & their owners need for companionship. Use to be billions of fish, all fish and now they are 90 gone! Now there's billions of pets eating fish based protein!? What a world!

The reason reason for fake grass was initially to literally cover up the toxic ash dump under Blanche Park by Marc Sarnoff. Now that he's out of office we can all hope that we can start the process of investigating him properly and digging up the truth of 9 years of lies. Sarnoff also arranged for the artificial grass to cover Armbrister Park's field to cover up any potential issue there.

Remember, the Blanche Park Dog Run was "experimental" in the use of artificial grass. No where else in Miami-Dade County had this been used. No where else in Miami-Dade County has a dog park cost so much... since 2009 the park grass has been replaced at least 5-6 times at a cost well beyond $1 million (its $300K to set up, $150K each replacement).

Not to mention that the Miami Parks dept has been dangerously neglectful of the park exposing pets and pet owners alike to disease and pests because they really washed down the artificial grass as they are supposed to at least 3 times a week. There is also the danger of ingestion.

Why has this happened? 5 parks directors in 4 years. Sarnoff like Attilla the Hun pressuring city staff to look the other way.

Eventually, even Sarnoff figured out that he could squeeze campaign donations from artificial grass companies for his wife's ill-fated campaign. Check the records. Now these same people are lining another city campaign's coffers for sweat deals on artificial grass on the walls lining US 1.

Thank G-d the city administration figured out that it would be far too costly to install artificial grass (at $5 million and growing estimate) over at the "flex park" by the Marine Stadium.

This is the real truth. Go look it up for yourselves if you don't believe it.

Sarnoff all be told was a paranoid, controlling person with delusions of grandeur (artificial grass was just one area of many ideas he rammed through the city). Why did any of you vote to keep him in office soooooo long?!

Your turn

Actually, the plastic grass or astroturf is the top layer of a remediation of Blanche Park. Following the disclosure by the City of Miami that below Blanche Park is a land fill of toxic waste, it along with 11 other City parks were shut down. Some parks are still shut. Blanche Park has been covered with a protective layer. I, personally, moved from the area. Tom, I find it hard to believe you don't remember that. The Miami Herald, New York Times and various other media covered it. You did too.

When I moved to the Grove, there were always problems with the dog park. It was a very dry with grass planted every few months and then mud during the rainy season. At least, with the astro turf, dogs don't dig into it. It can be kept cleaner, but you do have people coming to the park and completely ignoring their dogs when they poop.

Search "Artificial Grass & Rain Absorption".
Artificial turf allows water to filter into the ground. A dogs urine and fecal matter creates EXTREME bacterial counts on the turn that needs to be sprayed with harsh chemical baths monthly. The the sun heats the turf and causes a steam like environment from moisture in the ground to hover about parks for dogs using artificial turf. Normally this reaction doesn't harm dogs and cats, but is harsh on the young and the old, namely the eyes and lungs. A dog park is great for dogs, but I personally wouldn't take my children, my cat or my dog to some filthy shit/piss hole because they're seldom left alone and don't long to get out with the pack in modern CG. My animals crap and piss in my yard, which I bury daily and use as fertilizer on my mangoes, avocados and papaya trees, it taste better that way!
