Monday, August 24 is the first day of public school. The Police Commander Manuel Morales sent out a memo regarding traffic. "The Miami Police will conduct several traffic enforcement operations during the first weeks of the new school year in the areas that have received complaints. The officers will focus during the times of morning and afternoon commutes in the Grove. The units will be enforcing speeding in school zones, failure to obey posted stop signs, and violations of posted no right turn in the South Grove," he said.
Speaking of the Commander and the rest of the police department, there was a great story in Neighbors yesterday regarding their mentorship program with teens. That is here.
I sure hope that the police do enforcement that the "no right on red" sign when you're turning from Main Highway to McFarlane is not a joke. I see dozens of people run that red regularly, and dozens of people almost get killed each day as cars careen around the blind corner toward pedestrians with a "walk" sign (drivers usually texting, speeding, or both). Not to mention all of the other light running and illegal turns in that whole Grand/Main/McFarlane intersection. The Grove can't be great until people understand that this is unacceptable. Some regular, consistent ticketing (at random hours--not just during the school rush) would be lifesaving--for the Grove and its pedestrians.
ReplyDeleteGood observations Anon 4:57, and I think most would agree that if folks believe the police have quota on ticket writing then the police could create a cash flow and at the same time protect our children and the general population, so, go for it officers! Jobie Steppe
