May is Miami Museum Month

Outside the Box
This May, Greater Miami and The Beaches is celebrating International Museum Day (May 18) all month-long. The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (GMCVB) Miami Museum Month, sponsored by MasterCard Priceless Miami, offers visitors and locals the opportunity to take advantage of special deals and discounts at 25 participating museums.

During Miami Museum Month, visitors will receive “Buy One Get One Free” admission at select Miami museums including, Vizcaya, right here in Coconut Grove, the Bass Museum of Art, which features major European paintings and the Miami Auto Museum at the Dezer Collection, which has over 1,200 vehicles on display from some of Hollywood's most celebrated films and television shows.

Museum visitors who sign up for membership at participating “Join One Museum See Them All” museums will receive complimentary admission at other partner properties. Participating museums include the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami Children’s Museum, Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, and more.

Visitors can download coupons and receive additional information on the dedicated website MiamiMuseumMonth.com and interactive Pinterest board at pinterest.com/miamiandbeaches.

To kick off Miami Museum Month, The National YoungArts Foundation, a Miami-based organization that identifies and supports the next generation of artists in the visual, literary, design and performing arts, will present Romeo & Juliet Outside the Box on Friday, May 8 from 7-9 pm on the YoungArts Plaza. Playwright and YoungArts alumnus Tarell Alvin McCraney (1999 YoungArts Winner in Theater), along with filmmaker and fellow YoungArts alumnus Andrew Hevia (2003 YoungArts Winner in Cinematic Arts), will bring together some of Miami's electric performance artists, including dancers from the Miami City Ballet and Gentry George, appearing courtesy of Peter London Global Dance Project, to recreate an interactive evening inspired by Romeo and Juliet. Sponsored by ArtPlace America, the event is free of charge and open to the public.

Have you tried getting one? Of course not. I've stopped by numerous times forget about it. You have to look it up on the net, and then show up in line early before they open, to give a couple of tickets.

Demeaning and laughable. So no, thanks.
