O, Miami, The Kampong, and edible South Florida magazine are traveling back in time to 1981.
The seeds of Miami’s cultural revolution were being planted by a small but dedicated group of writers who were meeting regularly in a tiny Coral Gables bookshop called Books & Books.
Inside the timeless tropical paradise that is The Kampong, celebrate the poetry from 1981's Miami with a reading curated by Michael Hettich and enjoy 1981-themed food & cocktails curated by edible South Florida. You don't have to dress in 1981 period clothing, but it would be a lot cooler if you did.
O, Miami is a Knight Foundation-funded organization that expands and advances literary culture in Greater Miami. They produce a visiting writer series, a poetry festival, a publishing imprint, and other programs that bring the best literature to the greatest number of people.
Their largest event is our annual poetry festival, also named “O, Miami.”
Tickets are $15 if purchased before April 16th and $20 after. The event is Monday, April 27 from 7 to 9 pm at The Kampong. Tickets may be purchased here.
Self-parking is $5 cash on site. Parking is limited, so if possible, please carpool. The Kampong also encourages walking and biking!
Readers (Subject to change): Michael Hettich, Geoffrey Philp, Mitchell Kaplan, Meryl Stratford, Steve Kronen, Barbra Nightingale, Larry Apple, and Lenny DellaRocca
The Kampong is located at 4013 S. Douglas Road.
