Eastern Block films featured at Short Film Festival

The Miami Short Film Festival is back at CocoWalk. The next showing is Wednesday April 29 at 8 pm at Cinepolis.

The theme is "Post Iron Curtain Short Films," featuring some of the best short film representations from the former countries of the Eastern Block including Serbia, Russia and Slovenia.

Featured films are:

Zalet – Dir: Miroslav Stamato –  SERBIA/MONTENEGRO
Based on a true story. Two young actresses are trying to change their lives and prove that any change, even the one that never happened, can change the life of famous film director Emir Kusturica. 

CHICORY ‘N’ COFFEE - Dir: DuĊĦan Kastelic - Animation - Slovenia
Based on a poem from Iztok Mlakar , the film is a love story between a man and woman, The story turns on a small deception - since they were married, instead of the real thing, the wife has always made Chicory (a cheap substitute for Coffee) for her husband. 
Winner of over twenty awards at international film festivals.

Brittle Crystal – Dir: Ilya Kolesnikov – MUSIC VIDEO – RUSSIA
Animated music video to the song Brittle Crystal by Russian group Everything is Made in China. The musical video Brittle Crystal is a video-comic whose major topic is the state of a person in the modern information era.

THE LETTER - Dir: Matvei Zhivov – Narrative – Russia
After spending nearly three years as a partisan fighter in the wilderness, Stepan is heavily wounded and rescued by the advancing regular army in the bitter spring of 1944.  Healed and sent home, the battle for Stepan is hardly over. Best film at the Miami International Film Festival 2007, Barbados Film Festival 2007 and IIFC 2008. 

RABBIT & DEER,    Dir: Peter Vacz  – Animation - Hungary
Rabbit & Deer are living happily and careless until their friendhip is put to the test by Deer’s new obsession to find the formula for the 3rd dimension. After an unexpected accident Deer finds himself in a new world, unknown to him. Separated by dimensions the two friends have to find the way back to each other.
