Celebrating Earth Day at The Barnacle

The Barnacle hosted Earth Day on Sunday, it was a beautiful day and there were plenty to do in the park. My friend Bryan happened to be driving the shuttle so I managed to get a ride in and out of the park without walking the length of the entry path. It was door to door service to and from Main Highway to the great lawn out back.

People enjoyed picnics and live music provided by the Arts & Minds school.
And like every great Grove event, Hank and Madeline from Bike Coconut Grove, manned the bicycle valet, where the kids were able to decorate their bikes, too.
My first stop was this mini farmer's market. I thought this was a great idea for once a week - the back lawn of The Barnacle as a farmer's market, but I was told it is not very easily manageable and it's too much wear and tear on the lawn. Katrina, the Park Ranger, did tell me that they miss our Thursday farmer's markets at the Playhouse lot, the even extended their hours at The Barnacle to accommodate the market, but the season came and went and the Grove Green Market never happened. The New Times is running a story on markets that run all year round, naming the Saturday Market on Grand Avenue as one of them.

Slow Foods Miami offered free wraps, there was also Bianco Gelato pops for sale and The Barnacle's famous burgers and hot dogs. Here are Wonder Woman and Spider-man. Oddly enough, I left when a second Spider-man showed up and spotted this Spider-man. It was almost like two Santas at the mall, not a pretty picture.

  1. Had a blast with Mustafa and the Coconut Grove Drum Circle at the Barnacle Earth Day Celebration. I'd like to say that I rollerbladed 3 miles with 3 kids in tow to save gas for earth day, but the truth is that my wife had already left with the baby's car seat.

My son took some video, link below.
