Roberto is also the Music Director of St. Hugh Catholic Church, where these concerts are taking place. He began his piano studies in his native Bilbao, Spain, and in 1996 was invited to study at the College of Charleston by Uruguayan pianist Enrique Graf. After completing studies in Charleston, Roberto went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance at the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with the renowned pianist and conductor John Moriarty.
Maestro Berrocal came to Miami as part of the Florida Grand Opera Young Artist Program. He is sought after both as an accompanist for opera singers and as a concert solo pianist. He has been invited by Plácido Domingo to the National Opera in Washington, DC, as well as the San Francisco Opera. He was also the official pianist of the National Voice Competition of YPO – Florida Grand Opera. Because of his technical virtuosity and sensitivity, he is acclaimed as one of the leading Basque pianists of his generation.
